The ultimate headlight upgrade H4 (not LED or HID)

A lot of great info here! But can I get a simple run down, parts that I need for a 2010 taco. Oem led? Black housing?

 

In keeping with the thread's title, LEDs are not involved. Everything you need to know is Post 1 that, unless something's changed, @crashnburn80 keeps current...

 

so I did the upgrade, bulb and harness last year and they are amazing. I did it with the 100w bulbs. I want to switch to the osram 85w allseasons. Does anyone know where we can still purchase these and ship to canada?

I'm not familiar with "osram 85w allseasons." As described in Post #1, the original best choice bulb for those running an upgraded wiring harness WAS Osram Hyper 85/80w 2400 lumen H4. Unfortunately, they were Discontinued, leaving Osram Super Bright 100/90w 2900 lumen H4 bulbs as the best choice for us.

 

post #1518-1519 on page 76 talks about the all season 85/80w osram.

I had the all season bulbs in my Tacoma when I had it and they were pretty decent. They were discontinued due to low demand many years ago. I'd say you'll be better off with the 90/100's anyway.

 

Apologies for not remembering them. Like their non-all season cousins, they were discontinued. Osram Super Bright 100/90w 2900 lumen H4 bulbs are the best (headlight) choice for us.

The All Seaon Hypers were discontinued along with the other Hyper series bulbs. While the All Season produced a warmer/yellower output for the driver, it did so by using a diffraction coating that pulled the bluer light out of the beam pattern and above the cut off, increasing glare for oncoming drivers. A projectors glare shield would clean it up in a projector housing, but in a reflector it results in pretty bad glare and is not advised.

 

I tried ordering the osram 100/90w on powerbulbs.com and contacted customer service. They told me for the time being they don't ship to Canada? Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions on where else to order from?

 

They’re likely not shipping due to Canada post but there is an outfit out of the UK that I got ‘em from. Had ‘em in a week but can’t remember the name to save my life.

 

Damn that would be sweet. If you do remember at some point I'd appreciate it.

I know that this thread is mainly about a non-led upgrade for the stock 55/60W h4. I ended up ordering the Osram Night Breaker 200 halogens because I didn't really want to do the harness right now. While I was looking at bulbs I came across these h4 LEDs from Osram.

I know that the general consensus at the beginning of this thread was that you shouldn't put LED bulbs in halogen housings. 9 years later is this still the case? Is there anything different about these (besides the price). Has anyone tried them in a stock second-gen halogen housing?

yes, still the condenses,
the face to face of the emitters is much wider than the wound filament of a good incandescent lamp putting the light out of the focal point of the reflector

 

@RT_Guy this would be your “best” LED option, most of us love our halogens w harness and booster.
