Hi everyone. Been scrolling on TW long before I bought my truck in 2017. Today I have created an account because I need your help.

Refer to the video for the noise.

    https://youtube.com/shorts/JROCkUQi0bE?si=cr-7CRtOVgHcV055

    Truck is a 2017 tacoma sr5 v6.

Couple months ago I could hear the vibrating/rattling noise occasionally while accelerating. Now that it’s colder here in Ontario it does the same sound first start in the morning much louder and longer.

I checked the skid plates and heat shields everything looks good.

Had the dealership check it out during my last service couple weeks ago and either they weren’t able to reproduce the noise or they didn’t really look into it. They said everything is fine.

If you got an idea of what to look for let me know. This noise is driving me insane lol.

    Thank you!

As loud as that is should be pretty easy to find. Crawl under there and let someone else start it. Check for loose heat shields, a rock maybe stuck behind a heat shield. It’s definitely a metallic sound. Check the exhaust hangers. Listen to the muffler, maybe a baffle broke loose inside.

I was thinking a rock/bolt/nut loose against the stock skid plate or a heat shield.

    lol, 2 cycle mod!

i know you said you checked heat shields, but it really sounds like a heat shield vibration.

Glad you fixed the rattle. In the future what I like to do is get a long PVC pipe. Put my ear at one end and carefully poke around. When the opposite end of the pipe finds the noise, your ear will hear it loud and clear.
