This is the one for the 3.4. I used it once & returned it. Pissed me off because the prongs aren't long enough & it wouldn't stay in place. Doable with two people. It was still a PITB. Couple reviewers put that they clamped it. I couldn't figure out how to make that work. Despite that, it got good reviews.

I have also used this type in your link. Mistakenly got it before the other one since it simply states for Toyota & Lexus (didn't read the fine print). It really only properly fits anything except the 3.4. However, I did make it work by using only one bolt. In hindsight, it actually worked better than the one made for the 3.4. If one was so inclined in order to make it work for the 3.4, the spaces where the bolts go need to be hollowed out a bit more. The width between them fall short by a very small bit. & on the plus side, this is a bolt through, which according to Dirty Pool, is better for the pulley. I actually reordered one to use this time because I now know I prefer it to the one for the 3.4.

I'd rather avoid trying to shave off a tool like that and maybe weaken it. One review says it's not even close to fitting the 3.4.

I found this. The idea is you can use a flat bar to stabilize the crankshaft by putting one bolt in the crankshaft pulley and one bolt in the power steering pump bracket.

If I had one bolt installed, I could angle the 2nd bolt & feel it hit the other hole. Messed with me before I realized what was going on because it seemed like it should work.

Ha-ha! Do you know I have the makings of that in my truck? A little concerned about using a 14 gauge thick bar. I did buy 2. Thought I could bolt them together. Not sure about welding zinc plated stuff. Only thing I've done so far is straight up steel....

With the exception of Advanced, this has not been my experience so far. Although I've had both good & not so good experiences with them, I tend to steer away from their longer warrantied items because of the not so good. Not as much a fan of their parts in general anyway. Other than that, Autozone, o’reiley’s & NAPA have been great at doing repeat lifetime replacements & even going so far as to agreeing I had tried hard enough & refunding the original purchase dating back prior to the 90 day return period. I believe one scenario went back two yrs….

That was actually my one good experience with Advanced. My truck hated their axles. I thought I was locked into working with them because it was past the 90 days. Years & 3 or so sets later, I took a shot. Called the store. Told the manager what was going on & she said it was not a problem to refund back to the original. I got the NAPA extended ones & they’ve been decent.

    top o’ my head -
    NAPA - calipers/rotors, muffler
    Autozone - catalytic converter
    O’reiley’s - muffler
Advanced - rear shocks - This one I called the 800# & got someone to overrule the store manger. That was my last longer warrantied part from them.

Anyway, this has just been my experience thus far. Do I take it for granted? No. I still get myself ready for the “no” just in case. Then it’s fistycuffs time because no matter what it is, if I don’t see it in the fine print then you’re going to get an argument. Am I going to win it? Maybe not….
But seriously, if limited means one return, then why not spell that out. Add it to the rest of the fine print because that is what I use to interpret what limited means. No alterations, etc….

Can’t recall. It was long enough though that the manager got all pissy & said I musta abused them. Irony was that was around the time my truck was in traction the most. In fact for the 1st time ever I got a low mileage credit on my insurance. Anyway, he couldn’t explain to me though, what a limited lifetime warranty was or rather why, if the life expectancy of a rear shock is 5yrs (he mighta said 3) why not have their own 5yr policy rather than advertise the manufacturer’s….

I could figure it out if I could access my whole order history.
I just looked at it & the shocks are not on it. For some reason with them you have to call if you want to pull up an order going back so far.

personally, I think the consumers that don’t go by the warranties outnumber those who do.
On “paper”, it makes the item look better if it’s got a lifetime (or long) warranty. Time goes by. People forget where they got the item from or don’t have a paper trail, which nowadays you don’t need so much. &/or, one might figure they got 5yrs out of this or 3 out of that & call it a day. My figuring is this is what some? most? manufacturers rely on. & I guess, some retailers as well.

Ever try to get a hold of moog or monroe or other manufacturers administrative offices? Ha-ha! Nope. So if one’s got a question or complaint about warranties not being honored, forget it. I can get tech service just fine, but they’re no help with this stuff. In other words, they don’t care how the retailers interpret the warranty.

Anyway, TMI, but you got me on a roll now!
I SHOULD be putting my truck back together….

These are real common to give away in spring time.....

the AC compressor adds just enough drag to push it over the edge

I assumed they wobble before failure.......but maybe not all

getting to the point where the originals can go no further....

may of been advantage in way past to replace with oem...
but I think newer oem is gonna be equivalent to a dorman one...
if you buy the dorman from Autozone or Oreily's, its lifetime wrty...

If you use that bar method as a holder when torquing it back on I'll be interested in how it goes. I have this job on the horizon.

I didn’t. I’m almost afraid to post what I did though. I haven’t seen it anywhere, so I’m thinking there was some risk….

Ok. Here goes. Took two people. Thanks to Dirtypool’s info, I first put two bolts through the crank pulley. Then I held the right cam pulley with the holder whilst a friend tightened the bolt.

Everything seems ok though. Well, I should say the engine rotates fine manually. All lined up, etc. still have the accessory bolts & coolant to go….

That is exactly how mine started failing after turning the ac OFF from the freeway and city driving with windows down
Every 2200 or so rpm range and a very concerning metal banging noise that only happened at that rpm then went away until the next gear shift

Although I had not a clue that is what was going on at the time and neither did these yota master tech with the ASE certs after multiple tries at diagnostics
Duhhhh... Maybe it's the exhaust heat shields FML

I want to know the sound if similar from an automatic or do they not shift that far down the rpm during automatic gear change

Aha…. Wonder if I managed to inadvertently/unwittingly put off something that could have been way worse. Three? four? years back my compressor was acting up. I was working on a bunch of other things that took precedence, so after trying a few troubleshooters & getting nowhere, I removed the belt.

Mine doesn't make noise when revving the engine, it's when the engine is at idle in neutral. That I hear an erratic tick-tick-tick, tick-tick, long pause, tickticktickticktick!

I wonder if it really is the balancer or something else. Makes sense that an irregular noise could be from engine oscillations.
