I agree with you on this one. I have a 2019 TRD Sport that I bought in April of 2019, and i still have the OEM wiper blades on there and as I post this comment, it is January 10 2023! I live in Northern CA, and with every other vehicle I have had, I have had to replace the wipers every year! So I appreciate the comments especially the one about being able to buy the OEM blade inserts only with the part numbers. Thanks a lot!

Has anyone ordered 85214-04030 recently from the dealer? It seems to be listed now as "Not for Sale" at the online dealer I use.

I don't trust the ones on eBay unless they are in Toyota packaging.

I use the Toyota parts website and pick them up at Falkner Toyota in Harrisburg Pa. They are the dealership closest to me with the best price. To keep things efficient I order several oil filters, an air filter, cabin filter and whatever im going to need to do my own maintenance for the next year or two. Their price for the wiper refill is loke $10 each. If i got a new set of bosch blades at Autozne it would cost me $50. The oil filter is also under $5 and $10 @ Autozone. The online price is comparable for most items at parts.toyota.com so the auto parts stores. If there is no place close to you that you can pick up the parts. Like i have to drive 20 miles as the local dealer doesn't sell online. The site usually offers free shipping on orders over $75. Thats where ordering other stuff you'll use comes in.

My truck did not have the OEM wiper frames on it when I got it; just some crappy Toyota blades they sell at the dealership. I purchased the correct frame assemblies and an extra pair of the replaceable inserts. I ran them for 2 years with the original rubber blades that came on them. When I tried to remove the old blades to install the new inserts, they wouldn't budge. I watched all of the videos and tried everything except cutting the rubber on the original blades. Short of maybe forcing them and/or bending or ruining the new (and expensive) frames, I gave up.

If anyone has a "secret handshake" on the R&R, I'd be much obliged.

It is possible to replace inserts on oem blades if they are actual oem Toyota. It takes some effort and mechanical skill. Some find it easier just to replace entire oem assembly. Costs a little more but they are still better and cheaper than most expensive aftermarket.

The rubber insert and two stainless steel spring strips are held in by the molded slots in one end of the rubber. Tabs on the frame hook into the rubber slots to hold everything together. It takes some work, and maybe some sort of pokey tool like a dull screwdriver, to bend the rubber to dislodge the tabs. Getting it back together will require similar fiddling.

It's worth it, though. The OEM inserts cost notalot and they're excellent long-lived wipers.

Here's an image of the rubber "lock" that needs to come apart.

Some have indents/ depressions where the tabs are. Some also have slight wings at the end of of the spring steel strips. They will slide out past the tabs if you depress both side of the ends of the spring steel strips. Tricky but doable. Easier to take out than putting new inserts in. Also easier if assemblies are completely removed from vehicle when doing the work.

Thanks all. I'll give it another try now that I have input on the actual force it may take to remove the old original inserts from the expensive OEM frames.

The OEM Wiper Blade/frame part numbers for anyone else interested that may want to do this. I have the Insert parts numbers around as well. I'll dig them out and update this post when I find them.

85212-04031 Passenger 21" (RH) Wiper Blade
85222-04030 Driver 22" (LH) Wiper Blade

Note: The above part numbers are right from the Toyota parts number sticker on the plastic bag they came in. Purchased in 2022 or 23) I mention this because I have seen different parts numbers for them. Same thing for just the inserts. Verify the part numbers with a dealer before ordering.

I also use the OEM replacement inserts. What gets overlooked though, is the glass. A twice-a-year thorough cleaning (including degreasing, claying, and waxing) will do more to extend the life of the blades, and improve their performance than anything else.

I replaced my 3 year old OEM blade assemblies with Rain-X Latitude (mid-grade) in a pinch. They are fine and I will keep until they wear out, but the OEM seem better. Will do that next time

Were these assemblies for the '14 in your profile?

Thinking they should fit my 13 as well. I'm a big fan of OE refillable assemblies. My truck was lightly used when I got it, but the original stuff had already disappeared.

    Edit:

Putting those 2 numbers from the pic in Google brought me to Amazon, parts from Fred Haas Toyota of Spring Tx

My dealer even admitted that the Toyota Siteline blades they sell on the rack don’t last as long nor work as well as the factory refills and OEM beam to insert them into.

To the best of my knowledge, they will fit the entire run of the 2nd gens with the hooked arms. 2005-2015. I like Bosch Icons or OE's but they were pushing $30 each last time I looked. I think the Toyota blades were about $26 each at the time when I bought them. (2022) They are still doing fine with the original blades in them. I get the Michelin metal blades for my other car and they are almost an exact match for the Toyota OEM assemblies.

[EDIT] Note: For the "Eagle Eyes" out there: the top pic has an old Sightline blade in it: it is not one of the original OE Toyota blades.
