It most likely won’t fall, but if it does you’re right fucked. Is the risk of ruining your truck and whatever is around it worth the cost savings by not paying a dealer or buying the scan tool? It’s relatively low risk but extremely high consequence.

thanks for the reasonable answer, there were a few others as well, so thank y’all as well. …and for the rest of you… nice meme work :)

I needed to get it up on stands for a tire rotation anyway so I went ahead and tried it. Given that an open diff only spins one wheel at a time if neither are loaded, I ended up with only the right rear turning (I hadnt engaged 4wd). This freaked out VSC and I’m not entirely familiar with this system. I could hear something actuating under the truck and figured it probably was only designed for intermittent use so I gave up.

I realize I probably could have disabled VSC, gotten creative with loosening and tightening certain bleed nipples to choose which wheel spins, …, and eventually got this silly idea to work, but I’m quickly losing morale. I’ll post an update with whatever I decide to do.

It’s your brakes…… don’t get creative. The Toyota engineers already did that for you.
Personally I’d get whatever scan tool is needed to do the job properly. Even using it just once will be cheaper than taking it to the dealer.

    Hmm . . . none as yet, that's why i'm here . . .
Tell me why this idea sucks . . . OK I'll come out and say it . . . it's just a dumb fucking idea. Appreciate the effort you put in to thinking this way but it's just a dumb fucking idea. And yes, screw going to the dealer. Find yourself a good reputable local mom 'n' pop garage and have them bleed the brakes using a scan tool. They will appreciate your business and won't rip you off.
And you will still be alive as will your taco.
