Interesting thread. I read most of it. Didn’t see anyone bring up the fact that when the PCS engages the dash starts beeping loudly.

I know how to brake but when this happened I took my eyes off the road to stare at my dash trying to figure out which system was broken. The beep scared the crap out of me bc I was already focused on stopping my truck. WTF?

Happened a second time (yeah, ski traffic sucks in Colorado when you go from 65 to 20 because some numskull switches lanes without warning to get around a semi crawling up the hill) and I shifted my focus from the road to the dash. Again. I ended up setting the distance to “minimum” and trained myself to quit looking at the obnoxious beeping sound no matter how insistent it is. Completely dangerous IMO.

The PCS has activated a couple of times in the 3+ years I've been driving my Sport.

As what happened with you, the beeping did sorta startle me the first time...but considering my situation, I was traveling at a slower speed (40mph).

It did happen as a car merged into the turn lane I was in and I reacted just as the PCS activated...I applied the brakes before the system took over.

The second time it happened, I was faster than the system to apply the brakes again.

Since I installed an aftermarket vintage grill/garnish, I am constantly testing the radar...

Which means, I engage LDA (Lane Departure Alert) when on the highway using DRCC (Dynamic Radar Cruise Control).

I've learned to adjust the radar sensor bars to fit my needs...to include not leaving enough room for drivers to cut into my lane and cause automatic/abrupt braking.

    I spoke too soon! lol

On my way to get Tacos in downtown Dover, DE...

For some reason, even after I applied the brakes...it kept beeping at me...I was going over 40mph but less than 50.

Like she was sayin', "You've been talking bout me, haven't you?"

Happened to me yesterday. Thought I'd turned it off but now I see it comes back on with restart. Scared the crap out of me !!! I thought the truck was completely over-reacting.... the thing is a drama queen !!!!

Just not fair to have all these beeps and alarms when you have some kind of PTSD.

The one I find especially irritating is when I've been in the store to get lunch and get back in the truck and some alarm goes off because I haven't started it promptly ??? "key detected in vehicle" ... I'm just glad that one isn't any louder or longer.

I keep the PCS on but turn the sensitivity down. That particular feature has saved me twice from getting into an accident. Also, BSM has saved me from a fender bender, I leave it on. The one I turn off and leave off is the LDA feature. Around where I live there are to many potholes, dead deer in the road, road construction etc. That thing kept going off all the time cause I have to swerve out of my lane too often.

Some aftermarket company needs to come up with a tune or something that disabled all these nanny features and keeps them disabled after I start the vehicle without making the dash look like a Christmas tree

Well, the PCS alerted me yesterday when I was approaching a car in front of me a bit fast without applying the brakes. I did see the car and was about to slow down but PCS yelled at me anyway. I don’t mind this particular alarm, really. There were two young ladies walking down town with Wrangler jeans on that looked they were painted on, so I was a bit preoccupied. Dang, I’m only human.

What turns on that needs to be deactivated?

Here's what I reviewed to better understand the display after ignition start.

    Soooo....

Like completely disable all the safety features?

I'm wondering if that can be done in "Settings?"

I know the LDA (Lane Departure Alert) won't activate on my truck unless I press the button on the steering wheel.

And the radar sensing distance bars activates when I push the Cruise Button to engage it.

My truck did not come with BSM (Blind Side Monitoring) but I believe there's an on/off button for that.

The PCS (Pre-Collision System) is automatically enabled each time the engine switch is turned to the "On" position.

I see how disabling it every time you start your vehicle would be annoying.

I know they can be switched off but when you turn the vehicle off and back on, they reset to the active position.

I’m not anti safety stuff but if cars in the road are street legal without these “features” I as the consumer should have the right to disable them if I choose to.

    I understand where you're coming from...for sure.

Many of these safety features are well-intended...but totally disabling the system (since there's a camera on the rearview mirror involved) seems unlikely.

My PCS has activated a handful of times...and I was approaching a vehicle that abruptly stopped...and the buzzer went off.

Even though I am an attentive driver, I knew I had to brake harder because of the abrupt stop.

I was annoyed/startled the first time I heard it...but now I am better prepared if I hear it again.

You do have the right and already have the option. Like tacotime said, the LDA setting is retained on mine so it must be something that was changed after ‘21 at some point.
PCS can be completely disabled through techstream, but as far as I know turning it off in this way is permanent/irreversible. I’m pretty sure there’s an option to remember the last PCS setting in techstream as well.
The wife’s Subaru has the auto shut off thing when you come to a stop which defaulted to on each time you started the vehicle. I found a module that you plug in which retains the last setting, maybe there’s something for LDA in Tacomas for the last years of 3rd gen.

I’ve had people tell me otherwise through techstream. Maybe I need to just either go to a dealership or buy the darn thing myself. Idk.
