Hardwired my radar detector by tapping into the rearview mirror plug so I don't have the annoying cord hanging down all the time. (No I didn't get the radar detector for a tacoma lol it's for my project car but that's away for the winter so might as well run it in the truck)

Also replaced my 190k UCA's with third gen takeoffs with only 50k on them.

Do radar detectors even work anymore? Or are looking at the Police by the time it goes off?

Nice! Been waiting for someone with real life pics. Would you mind grabbing a shot of them without the lights on? I'm curious how the clear LED elements look. Torn between red and the black out, but I'm not a fan of the clear elements if they stand out when off.

Now all my oils are done

But I didn't anticipate oem mid skid plate one of the bolts snapped. Was for extended section of skid like a bracket but after playing w that for an hr I ended up just getting back all the others and theyre tight. I hope aftermarket skid don't need that bolt hole ever. Half the bolts were kind of a b and I wd40d them even for front and mid skid. Prob need to address them in the future

I’ll grab a pic in the daylight tomorrow. I wasn’t a fan of the clear elements standing out either, but the lenses are darker than pictures appear. They hide them pretty well

They (at least good ones) definitely still work, just not against laser as stated above. Everything said above is spot on although quite a lot of the local cops in towns around me still use K band though, not just KA.

If it's a relatively straight road where they're aiming in my direction, I usually pick it up as a faint signal quite a ways off (over a mile or two) well before they usually have me in line of sight to actually get my speed. I really just have it for twisty back roads (my project car is a miata lol) and if they're running radar I almost always pick it up a corner or two before I get to them which is all I need, I'm not driving like a complete idiot. Even in the truck it's nice to have a better chance at avoiding the like 5-10mph over tickets, a lot of roads near me are very low speed limits and everyone and their mother is going 5-10 over like most places.

I don't really care about highway because I usually just chill at 5 over in the truck since my gas mileage takes such a hit, and the miata isn't exactly a comfortable high speed car for sustained periods of time. When running laser they typically pick out the faster cars so I've only been hit with it once the past year, which means they have your speed already. I've always run waze too both for police, traffic, and all that.

All of this only applies when cops have their radar just sitting on while sitting there, if they're not running radar you won't pick up anything which is what a lot of people don't realize. However I'd say probably 75-80% of them surprisingly leave radar on 24/7, even just driving around or parked. Some that are more motivated will run "instant on" where they'll sit and wait until you're in their sights to turn on their radar, in which case you get no warning of course.

Nice! Yeah I don't love the location but it's all that worked well with that mount I still had laying around. I just ordered another adhesive fixed mount so that I can mount it above the rearview mirror to the right behind the tint strip so it's pretty much unseen from the outside. That's where I run it on my Miata since there I reallyyy need all my windshield space and it's very discrete.

That'll be cleaner. And good previous comment. I saved myself a few tickets (nothing bad) over the years on country backroads even, my beltronics does well but also grabs a ton of alternate and false signals

It used to be in my old wrx. My dad ran cheap ones that worked great way back in our hockey days

Yeah that was one of the reasons I picked the R7, the auto mute memory works quite well it's very quiet especially when I drive a lot of the same roads. In cities and plazas it still gets noisy but can usually just turn it off then anyways.

yeah it goes on sale quite often though, and I figure if it saves one ticket it pretty much pays for itself with the ticket cost and insurance increases.
definitely helpful that's for sure. Yeah I almost got V1G2 but wanted the integrated GPS for a bit less falses.

They only will pick up radar if the Officer is transmitting from his unit. For example, the unit can be turned on but placed on "hold" which means it isn't transmitting or sending out a radar signal. If I'm really trying to catch someone speeding, then I'll drive with it on HOLD until I see a potential violator and then begin transmitting. Usually if this happens, it's too late for your radar detector to warn you and it will probably peg the meter. Occasionally if I'm feeling lazy and want to leave the unit "open" and not on HOLD, then a radar detector that's in the area would likely begin to pick it up. Also, this is just me but if I catch someone speeding (usually 15+) and I see they have a radar detector when I get up to the vehicle, then it's a ticket.

Totally understood and didn't mean to get this off Tacoma topic haha, just wanted to not ignore something that was asked. I'm not trying to condone speeding or anything either and have no problem with police, I don't have any tickets and try to keep it that way!
