Not sure this is the right area but it falls in line with my issue. I installed a pop n lock about 6 years ago and it have worked like a charm until today. I unlocked it and poof the tailgate won’t open. Anyone have any suggestions before I start trying to figure it out by tearing everything apart?

I have a cap and that latch is working perfectly. 2014 TRD sport

I had the same issue with a pop n lock back in the day on a 2nd gen. My solution was go back to stock. I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Mine didn't last 6 years. Not much of a suggestion, that's just what i had to do.

Starting to notice the lock on mine is constantly getting loose. Have to remove the tailgate cover to tighten the locking ring every few months now. I’ve had it for close to three years. Started doing this about a year and a half ago.

This^^^^^. Remove cover, check it out, tighten it. If this doesn't work then install a new one. Pop N Lock is not a lifetime part.
6 years is probably a good life span. I’m on my second one , I think the first lasted 5 or 6 years.

This makes sense. Definitely not built like an oem part. And even oem won’t last forever.

I put a Pop N Lock in my '11 shortly after I bought it. If you hear the solenoid clunking when you hit lock/unlock it's probably a dead simple fix.

    - The first time I had a tailgate latch problem it was the Pop N Lock coming loose. Tightened it up, believe I did something to keep it coming loose in the future (like lock washers, locktite, etc.) but it's been so long I can't remember what it was specifically. Never happened again though.

    - 2nd time I had a problem with the tailgate, it was actually a problem with the handle/latch linkages binding up. Wiped off some crud and added some lube. Good to go.

    - 3rd time I just sprayed some WD-40 in there and back in business...

All that to say, if the solenoid & wiring are working, it might not be the PnL and quite possibly an extremely cheap & simple fix.

    Best of luck!

    B
