    Greetings all,

I recently had a 2000 TRD Supercharged dropped in my lap that doesnt run. Its a nice truck hence the reason why I took it and the price was right at $4k.

    Quick specs:
Extra cab TRD? No stickers but has the Bilstein's, skids, and rear E locker so I assume it is?
Fully loaded with power everything, sunroof, etc.
161k, clean title, zero rust, new tires with an extra set off stock wheels and studs

Extra's - has the TRD supercharger w/ the URD pully and URD 7th injector kit.

Now for the fun part... It doesnt start. Long story short the prior owner had trouble starting it a year ago and a new (stock) fuel pump was installed. It was fine until June where it wouldnt start at all. It was towed back to the same shop where it was thought that the crank sensor was bad. Still no start. Mechanic messed around and did a compression check where he believes that the engine is bad as he said it had 20psi. He assumed that all the extra cranking and no start washed the rings hence the low compression and said it needs a new engine. It sat for 5 months with no updates and he reached out to my dad who referred him to me to buy it.

I bought it with the understanding that it needs a new engine, or does it???

It does get fuel and I feel like its too much. Could the 7th injector be dumping too much fuel and washed the rings?

If I go the new (used) engine route I plan to strip the supercharger / 7th injector setup and put back to stock and sell. (I already have a Tundra and LS430 so never intended on keeping it)

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

Since you suspect low compression do a proper dry then wet comp check. Better yet a leak down test. You paid 1/2 of what its worth, Why throw in the towel so ez? Go from there.

Yea, I am gonna dive in deeper this weekend. I actually know who the mechanic is that worked on it (Toyota master tech) and am a little surprised that he couldnt confirm with certainty what the issue was and suggested a replacement engine...

Disable the ecu... fuse / relay, your choice. If you suspect that the rings are washed.... Take all the plugs out and squirt some oil into each cylinder and crank her over for 10 seconds, squirt a little more oil, crank her for 10 seconds and let it sit a few and then do a compression test. If the compression gets to 120 ish, you are on your way. If compression is still low, get #1 on TDC and verify cam timing. Do not trust the timing mark on the harmonic balancer at this point. If all is good then do a leak down test if you have the equipment

Well I did a compression test and didnt have much luck. All cylinders were about 45 PSI. I squirted some oil down the cylinders and maybe got up to to 50ish PSI so not much luck. I pulled the all the front covers and checked the timing and it was spot on. I can try putting #1 at TDC but do not have a lot of faith. Any idea what would have caused this? Its odd that all cylinders are consistent with low compression but I suppose that would make sense if the cylinders got washed. That would be question #2... What would cause the excessive fuel to wash out the cylinders? If the engine is indeed toast I do not want it to happen again. Could it be something with the ECU / 7th injector setup dumping too much fuel?

Thinking out loud here... The URD pulley, over driven, under driven or ? I am thinking that the previous owner "went big" and paid the price. You can buy an inexpensive pencil camera to take a look inside the cylinders through the spark plug hole. use caution when you use the mirror that clips on the end of the stalk as they have a tendency to pull off as you withdraw the scope from the plug hole.
