Was wondering what a good non-lead acid battery would be to use on a 21 TRD Sport 4x4 Taco?
Used to use a Optima RedTop on my 05 Silverado, but heard Optima is not as good as it once was due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ive seen good results with XsPower, but the only downside you gotta charge them once you get them on a charger, and they are about $150-200 more than Optima.
Not a fan of Lithium batteries after seeing a video of one catch fire at Slamology this yr.

I went with the aforementioned Optima Red Top. So far, so good one year in.

^ it's likely because they moved manufacturing out of the United States and into Mexico after the acquisition.

I'd stay away from a lithium chemistry in any vehicle starting application esp one with a constant parasitic draw or that sits outside in cold weather at night. There's a reason they are almost never used as a starting battery in cars and trucks.

Lots of people have had good luck in price and warranty with Costco, Walmart in USA and Costco, Canadian Tire in Canada. Just get a regular lead acid. No need for anything else.

Walmart Everstart Maxx is pretty much all I ever buy. Affordable, decent waranty, and no issue lasting 3 years or more. Plus there's walmarts everywhere if you need another one.

Found an Autozone group 27 AGM on Craigslist. for $75 ( brand new). Owner of a toyota hybrid bought it mistakenly and couldnt return it. Ran it for 2 years in my Gen2 and now 4-1/2 years on my Gen3.

Why toy with this or that battery. Buy the cheapest one run it for 2 years then buy another.

The days of 7-10 years out of a battery are gone.
I'd never pay twice as much ( or more ) for an AGM... it won't last any longer than a Neverstart from Wmart anyway...

This June I'll be buying 3 batteries from Wmart, the Truck, the Subaru, and the Corolla all get new batteries every 2 years.
Period. End of story. Ain't got time to worry about them dying in hell-temps here in Phoenix.

I would never buy an unsealed battery again, but the Toyota TrueStart has a 7-year warranty. Good in my opinion for a dealer item. I can only wonder how the adjustments go?

    I'm curious what you get.

    I have a 2021 as well...mine still cranks fine.

I'm thinking AGM but have some questions for my tuner.

Although they are warranted 84 months 60 is about all you will get sometimes a little more. It seems like the last one that went out around five years I got very little back towards the prorated warranty. I have a 2004 Tacoma as well as my 2023 haven’t needed a battery for the 3rd gen. but been through a few for the 1st gen. always used the TrueStart and got decent life for the money.

BTW I see they have gone up in price since the last one I purchased.

Edit: I just checked it was the 60 month I have been buying for under 150.00 maybe that’s why I have only been getting five years lol.

I had the valley runner tune a couple of years ago and they compensated for the AGM battery and the 275/70/17's.

I found Toyota TrueStart batteries to be Hit or Miss. My original battery from the factory developed a bad cell at 33 months. Toyota gave me a free new battery which is now just over 6 years old. I always carry a jump box in my truck and want to see how much life over 6 years I get out my current TrueStart.

In my other Toyota vehicles, when the factory battery fails I get an Interstate battery from Costco.
