Btw, not sure how long this roof tape/seal is going to last compared a standard cap. As you may be aware, the sun's ultra violet rays have damaging effects on many synthetics. Time will tell. Maybe we should start a tread/list on aggressive attorneys...

Mines the same. First thing I noticed that seemed like a defect. The more I wash it though, it seems like it doesn't allow water to pool up in the groove. Personally, I'll call it an undocumented feature and not worry about it.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
I do not have a picture. What mine is doing essentially looks like a few blobs of extra fender material dripped on the fender. Basically a few small bumps. Havent done any major inspecting, but they didnt move or come off with my thumbnail. Gonna figure it out in more detail when I next clean the truck. Was odd to me because they for sure werent there before.

Amd / "The Car Care Nut" channel just purchased a brand-new '24 Tundra 1724 Edition and did a video on it the other day and it has this exact issue. Partial trim piece and then a wavy uneven finish. I can't imagine what that truck costs with all of the beautiful handmade leather, but regardless it shouldn't have bubbly/wavy looking paint. .It almost looks like beads of puddled water sitting in the drip channel. He talks about it at approx 19:10 in the video

Toyota has been cutting corners for the last 50 years. They have entire teams of engineers and manufacturing experts dedicating their careers to cutting corners. Most people don't realize how cutthroat the car manufacturing business is. If you worked at Toyota and figured out a way to save 50 cents per vehicle without affecting function or durability, you'd be employee of the month. If you figured out a way to save $5 per vehicle, you get a lifetime achievement award and a feature article in SAE magazine.

It's almost as bad as the exposed pinch welds on 2nd and 3rd gens eh? :boink:

The 4th gen is a good 4" taller than the 3rd gen, so people are less likely to see the drip rail.

Do you know if any racks/rails are available for our trucks? Whenever I've seen any roof accessories designed for 4th gen Tacoma they always specify for DC only. Actually don't recall seeing any aftermarket anything for xtracabs (sadly).

I'm getting this, I think it will take care of the issue and I will be able to use it as well.

It's a mess. You shouldn't have to install a roof-rack for $329 !! as an "install-it-yourself" vinyl strip fix to hide a crappy job by the manufacturer. I think AMD/The Car Care Nut pointed out this same exact issue in a video on his big-bucks $70k+ 2024 Tundra 1794 Edition.

    Unacceptable.

This disappointing lack of workmanship is exactly the same on the new Titan and Frontier, and those owners aren't happy about it either.
When people first see it, they think it's a defect and get pretty worried about it.

I guess Toyota and Nissan think we won't look up there?

Sorry ,but this is no big deal, the only time I see it is when I wash the truck. Many trucks and vans have this going back over 20 years.

I agree with you that the roof issue is not a problem at all, but was/am curious if any aftermarket suppliers are designing anything for 2-dr models.

Wasn't an issue to me either, I still bought my truck. They're all like that.
Just sharing that Toyota isn't the only one.
Heck, Toyota admitted to cutting corners on the new Tundra. Now look where that got them. Volume knobs falling off, seat panels breaking and 100k+ engines need to be replaced.
I think Toyota did MUCH better this time with the Tacoma, if all we can complain about is the roof seam sealer, I'll take it
