I need some advice with buying new tires, I have nitto ridge grapplers that are 6 years old now and have started to dry rot. I contacted my local tire shop to get some LT285-70R-17 C rated tires and they only have BFG K03s that I could order in that size and it would cost 1700 for the full installation. I was originally looking for a set of Falken AT4w but only had 2 in stock nationally. Do I look for a different ply rating and get heavier tires that I hear will wear out my drivetrain faster, maybe try a different size tire or try ordering online? Any advice would help, not trying to spend $1700

Moving to E rated tires isn't going to make any noticeable difference in your drivetrain wear. It'll make more difference to your ride quality and gas mileage.

I might look into E rated tires if it’s just slight differences in the ride quality and gas mileage. Thanks.

I'd say slight on gas mileage... depending on who you talk to ride quality can be drastically different. They can ride rough.

I will have to read through some more threads, I already have a rough ride but am hoping some of that is due to the old dry rot tires. Do you recommend trying to order a set online or going through a local shop?

I do 100% of my tire business at Discount Tire. I've had great luck, but again, I know some people hate them in their area. Might check out your regional threads on here and see if folks have good suggestions.

It looks like the discount tire down the road has some good reviews and it says they have the AT4s in stock. I will give them a call, thanks!

Perfect, because a new tire shop (discount tire) was going to be my recommendation. Thats no shot at your local shop, but DT never has any issue finding a particular tire, shipped to your door (if needed), and at the best price available. Sure, this sounds like a paid ad, but their customer service is just that good. If you have to drop $1500ish, might as well have somebody talk sweet to you :spending:

Well I’m all in because I just added the tires I want with installation and it’s $1400 and if they talk sweet to me
Local tire shop was trying to quote me 1700
