Looking to tow behind my Class C RV my 1999 Tacoma xtra cab 4x4 with automatic transmission with manual 4x4 ..
Toyota says no but I'm hoping there's a workaround .

It is my understanding that the rear driveshaft must be disconnected because I have an automatic tranny and that "neutral" on the manual transfer case is not sufficient as with a Jeep for flat towing ?
I saw an outfit online ( Superior Driveline) that makes a disconnect at the rear end with a manual coupler/yoke assembly . Much easier than unbolting and bolting at the rear yoke . I've done it but it's not a quick or clean job. And then what to do with a dangling drive shaft from the double cardan joint . Kinda heavy .

I have manual locking front hubs .
So if the hubs are freewheeling position nothing with the front differential , front driveshaft is active and would be safe on that end to tow ?

I really don't want the added weight of a trailer ( 5k towing max) or running front wheel dolly . I plan to have my dirt bike in the bed of the truck and a front Dolley seems a bit sketch with added weight and higher center of gravity .

    any thoughts most appreciated

Manual hubs are perfect for the front, and yes, even with a manual you must remove the propshaft on toyotas, the transmission simply isnt designed to spin from the rear without the lubrication circuits being worked.

I've only seen one prop shaft disconnect at work and it popped out on me while I was driving, but its worth it if you plan on flat towing often.

Tow it by the rear wheels. If you have manual hubs nothing will turn but the wheels.

Hey guys, I'm on same situation here.

Really want to keep my 2015 Tacoma 4WD, but I'm seeing quite challenging this flat towing I want to do as well.

Hey VBdiver58, really curious here to know if you ended up putting that setup together? It would be really helpful for some feedbacks if you have done it.

    Thanks.
