I bought my son a 2015 Tacoma for Christmas and it runs great! Until this morning when we attempted to add a new key fob from Amazon. After a few tries we eventually gave up and now the car won't start. We tried disconnected the battery and that didn't work. Fuses are fine. After some research I figured that we had tripped the immobilizer and needed to reprogram the ECU. I could be wrong, but everything was working great until we tried to program these damn key fobs.

I saw a trick on this video, but it doesn't work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQXgbSUQ0Yo

Any ideas on getting the truck started would be awesome.

Welcome to Tacoma World. What process did you use to try and program the new fob? I'm guessing you may have wiped out the OEM key from the immobilizer memory and now the immobilizer is doing it's job. Work backwards on whatever you are doing to program the fob and see if you can put the OE key/chip back into memory. If you don't have the tools or ability to do that, might need to bring it to the dealership or a competent locksmith with the necessary programming tools to get it back again. Good luck.

Is the security light next to the clock flashing with the key on?

The vehicle immobilizer and keyless entry are 2 separate systems so programming the remotes should have no effect on the immobilizer.

    Does the truck still crank?

Does the CEL come on with the key on?

Truck won’t crank at all. Battery appears dead now and won’t take a jump.

Truck ran fine this morning and for the past few weeks. But maybe it’s just the battery. I wonder if we put it in program mode and the battery just drained. But that seems like fault logic.

and thank you for the back and forth!

    @Dm93

    Check the FSM.
There is a way to delete all keys doing the manual key code like they did. IIRC.
Maybe they are in clear mode.

I would but I’m not at home.
Seems like there is something that has to do with counting the door locks to tell what mode it is in.

    Also OP.
You wouldn’t be the first to have a dead battery at the “wrong” time. I have that type of luck too.

Certainly could have been that the battery was on it's way out and having the key on that long finished it off.

Do you have a meter to check battery voltage?

With the key out of the ignition. Does the security light come on and flash?

    Ot needs too.

Unless the truck is a 4 cylinder. Then it will never come on. At least not in USA marketed trucks.

Completely dead battery. Jokes on me. I paid the crazy price for the dealer key just in case. Thanks for all the responses.
