I have a 2.7 Tacoma and I’m trying to gain more bottem end power It’s got to the point I can’t go wheeling we’re it’s so weak about getting over things or even climbing hills I know the arb bumper and winch and the 33s aren’t helping the matter I’ve looked into regear tuning heads and other things that lce offers for the 2tre but don’t want to sink a lot of money in and not get a good outcome I know it’s a 2.7 and not fast just trying to gain bottom end

Gears may be your best answer. It will offset the effective gear change you implemented with taller tires.

I have a header, intake spacer and clutch fan delete and am happy with the results. Not a rocket, but def more low end grunt

Regearing is the way to go. You'll turn higher rpm on the highway but these engines will take it. From my personal experience...it's better to go a bit lower than you think you need to, especially if you off road. Even after new gears, you'd be surprised how much power those bigger tires eat up, along with the extra weight of bumpers, etc. Not everyone will agree with my viewpoint, and that's ok. You have to decide what will work best for you. I have the same engine and a 5 speed. I would go with 4.56 gears minimum, most likely 4.88's with that size tire. YMMV

I have a 2016 2.7 4X4 five speed manual. The stock 3.909 gearing meant that fifth gear was useless because the 2.7 (with mods and some weight) can't pull an overdrive gear. After doing the math I figured that 4.88 was the best option. With this, fifth gear is basically direct drive (.97) and I now have five gears covering the same range that was covered with four with the stock gearing. On the road, this makes a huge difference. Shifting is intuitive now and I'm almost five mph faster going over the Cascade passes.

Did the 2016 not come with the 4.10 in the rear like the earlier 2nd gens?

Won't help much above crawling speed, but someone used to offer a heavier flywheel for the manuals.

My winter tires are quite a bit smaller in diameter than my summers, so I know what you mean.

The 2016 five speed comes stock with 3.909 differential gearing. I'm not sure why. Even with stock tires and no mods, and no load (the way the truck was when I bought it), 5th gear was only usable downhill or on the flat with a tailwind. The third gen 2.7 (with variable valve timing) needs to be turning at least 2,600 RPM to get some grunt and with the 3.909, it was turning 2,400 at 70 MPH.

    Is yours a five lug?

The intake spacer kit from AES will give you a slight improvement in torque but I am not sure if it is going to be noticeable. A re-gear will certainly help but it is not cheap, The real answer is just buy a V6, I am sorry that is an obnoxious answer I know.

The answer is to buy a V6. the stock engine already has a header and variable valve cam timing. It's not like they left much on the table. It's just a dog- and I have one.

Is your truck 4X4 or 4X2. The 2.7 isn't fast, but it is just fine off road if used in low range even with the slightly larger tires. If you don't have 4X4 and low range, there isn't much you can do other than trade trucks.

I agree, call LC Engineering, explain what you're looking for and they'll help you out.

I installed the LC Engineering Performance exhaust header and the 40% increase in cross-sectional area helps the engine breathe better, and I think it's less prone to stall, but that's just my opinion.
