Hello to all! My daughter just got back from college for the holidays. Her truck had some 4wd issues a month ago so I let her friend (and his dad) work on it as they were familiar with tacomas. They replaced the front dif actuator which had water in it and was rusted. They also replaced the actuator on the transfer case as it was damaged. Fast forward to yesterday. I go to move her truck and notice that her 4wd light is flashing but the switch is in 2H. I cycled to 4h and rolled forward but no change. Put it back in 2H, no change, I decided to try 4L immediately the beeping started. I put it back to 2H. Crawled under and tried to spin front driveline but feels engaged. When I asked my daughter how long has it been flashing she said since they “fixed” it. I’m thinking that they installed one or both wrong. Where to start and how would I manually line up where it should be? Thank you in advance! Merry Christmas!

Also, the steering doesn’t feel like it’s in 4wd.

Thank you for that awesome link! So I lifted the truck and I can see that when I spin either tire the forward driveline rotates! Truck in park. I’ve tested the ecu wires as described in the thread that was sent(which was awesome!) and found that some of the readings L1,2&3 were completely off. That led me to remove the Transfer case actuator and found that it was installed wrong with the rod set in 4H but clocked to 2H I manually put it in 2H and reinstalled. Works perfectly! Thank you for the guidance!

    Nice job, Sir!
And, you learned something about the truck in the process!

Check your breather tubes on those actuators to make sure the ends where they attach, aren't split. They'll do that in time and fall off. THEN, water gets into the contacts. This is one of the biggest failures of these units.
If it's split, cut a little off the end and reinstall.
