I have a stock 2003 4wd DC, SR5 wanted to replace the front shocks,etc.. finding real confusion on what any kind of correct part # might be, example,, if I hunt for monroe there is a 171352 and a 171351 but which one is for my model etc,, is not clear. Anybody have a similar example they can share, I have the truck on the stands ready to replace with 171352 since no where it states they cant be used for a 4wd DC. Really hard to find anything accurate,, Thanks for any help...

I honestly would avoid Monroe, they sag quick. Spend the extra money and go 4600 or 5100 IMO.

I run KYB MonoMax shocks in front and back, and I think they're great. I was looking for something good and reliable but not as crazy expensive as the Bilsteins that everybody raves about. I had used KYB before, and was really satisfied with their performance.

I bought mine from RockAuto, and they list these:
KYB 564001 looks perfect for what you want, and I wouldn't hesitate to mount the LESJÖFORS 4192528 springs with them, regardless of whether you drive a Double/Extra/or Regular cab. I'm not a rabid truck abuser, and drive 85% of my miles on the highway, so as long as you're aren't running the BAJA 1000 or something, these will work fine on your daily driver.

Suspensionlifts.com had the best price I found on a 4 corner set with pre-assembled coilovers. This is the set I'm running on my '03 EXT, Moog coils, Bistien 4600's all around, closest to stock you'll find.

IIRC, if it's a TRD double cab it runs a progressive stock front coil spring. I have never compared that side by side to an aftermarket probably constant rate spring. Not sure it would make a street ride difference. But different than stock application none the less.

Thaks for the replies, It is next to impossible to find the correct coilover/strut what ever you want to call it, I was about to install monroe 171352. and could tell the spring sizing was not as heavy as the stock OEM one. so sent them back. I am still hunting , and even when using VIN # nothing close yet in a complete package (spring and shock) assembled. I really do not want to go with the bilstein prices, if I can find something comparable. Hoping to find a
pre-assembled coilover , even saw some postings where they claim the part on a prerunner is the one for my stock 2003 4WD DC, just not able to find verified info.. Thanks again

Where are you located? I have a fairly new set of 5100's with old man emu springs that came off my 4dr prerunner. Added about an inch or 2 in ride height over stock. If your interested.

Yes, I have reviewed the 4600 and 5100, looks like to not have to guess at the coil rating for keeping the stock performance/height etc,, probably have to just buy the strut and keep the original OEM spring. RockAuto will list a strut for original toyota 48510-A9160. but wont list it for a pre-assembly. I have seen many comments on the pre assembly's not keeping the stock height, (sagging) even when the part is listed for 2003 tacoma 4wd. Thank again

Your coils are 21 years old and doing your own can be a real PITA.

    Here's the Moog spring chart.

The set I showed you uses Moog 81104's, as close to stock as you can get. S.L. is extremely responsive to emails, hit them up with questions. No I don't work for them, was just very impressed with how they do business and their pricing.
