What speaker harness adapters did you use?

20241223_084527.jpg I talked to Crutchfield just ne and they only have 1 speaker that is a 4" that fits non jbl system. It is a RetroSound R-452N. And he said they don't have 4 pin adapters to fit it and I would have to cut the original harness wires and wire it directly. While I could have been willing to try out the speaker, cutting the original wires, isn't something I am willing to do at this point.

Just a thought to consider since it's looking like you may choose to cut and splice the speaker wiring, does the Tacoma use aluminum wiring?
The wiring in our 2020 Corolla hatchback is supposedly aluminum, and it takes special attention to splicing with copper to avoid a corrosive reaction between dissimilar metals.

Just something to be aware of, they do that in new vehicles to save weight and probably money. Not sure if Toyota is doing that in the Tacoma

The 3 1/2 inch jbl speaker and Metra 72-8110 adapter arrived today. I was excited to try it immediately. What a disappointment the 3 1/2 jbl is too small and the Metra 72-8110 is wrong. So these will be going back to Amazon immediately. Unfortunately I got excited and ordered jbl club 64 6 1/2 for the front and rear door speakers assuming that connectors/ adapter was going to work. I ordered those from Sonic Electronix and they are supposed to arrive tomorrow. So I will be returning those also. It sucks.

I tried the 3 1/2 jbl that were recommended here. They were too small. So maybe there are 2 sizes of speakers for jbl and non jbl systems. 20241227_135227.jpg

I opened up the driver door cover and I started to do some sound deadening. When I removed the front door speaker, I was shocked at how cheap it feels. No weight to it, also a pathetic magnet. It says 4 ohms 20 watt

I guess, I will have to wait and see. It sounds to me that I will not know until all speakers are installed.

I just ordered Infinity Reference REF607FSL shallow mount speakers for rear doors and REF607F for the front doors. I will say I am impressed at the punch that comes out of the factory JBL front door speakers for what they are. I cannot imagine how crappy the non-JBL speakers are if the JBL speakers are made this cheap.
Will replace the dash speakers in a few months. Would like to see some more plug-n-play options to the market.

I have a sonic beat amplifier 2t3... I decided to do sound deadening and replaced my oem speakers with JBL speakers. I installed 5 speakers so far and I wanted to report that the best improvement that was noticeable was from the dash speakers. I am hoping to put the last one in tomorrow after church and some family commitment. I don't know if I crank up the beat sonic amplifier if anything might change. I had it on the recommended 12 o'clock and 2 o'clock. So far if I were to do it all over, I would only do the dash speakers. That was really a nice difference in sound.20250104_150313.jpg 20250104_234714.jpg 20250104_234735.jpg 20250103_170923.jpg 20250102_223954.jpg
