Replaced diff oil twice now. Drain plug magnet was all gummed up with small metal shavings both times. That normal? Seems to spin just fine when I jacked it up and no alarming clunks.

How long ago was the last diff oil change?

That’s kind of normal for a differential that’s never been changed before and is at about 100k. But not 30k or no.

If that’s after the 2nd diff drain. Something is likely wrong in the diff.

Remember I welded the spiders gears together in the 8.75 diff. I changed the fluid a few days ago after driving around with some fluid after welding the diff. I then just checked the drain plug and found those shavings. Just ripped the truck through some whoops here in sand hallow and it gives perfect power to both wheels like I wanted.

Your E-Locker failed; this failure could have created a bunch of shavings. Did you flush out the axel tubes and the pumpkin while you had the 3rd member out? If not, I would say it is still junk washing out of the tubes and pumpkin. Those tubes can hold a lot. Plus, did you take the locker apart and do a thorough cleaning before welding?

Also, are you still using ~90 Weight oil; if so, many people who treat their vehicles like you make the change up to the 90/140 weight dino. Some companies that do regears recommend 140 only.

For further flushing keep the viscosity low, even some engine oil and a short non-stressful drive. Important to tilt vehicle repeatedly from side to side to clean out those tubes.

I don't believe you ever stated just what type of failure you had on the E-Locker.?

Ok yea that all makes sense. I’ll stick with the 90w oil for maybe a couple more drives just to help move out all the junk and then move up to the 140w suggested. The locker outer ring that you can move in and out to engage it is what seems to brake. I had jacked up the truck and then engaged locker when I heard a slight klunming noise inside the diff and the locker wasn’t engaging.

I tried my best to flush out all the excess oil and debris before welding with like 2 cans of brake cleaner but that was all. No I did not flush out the axle tubes. I just cleaned out rest of oil at bottom of pumpkin, was probably a bunch of small shavings around like you said that are starting to make thier way down to the magnet as I slosh the oil around over jump/whoops at 60mph hahaha. Was fuckin rippin it today in sand hallow. Trucks been handling well with the tundra bolt in rack with solid steel mounts.
