Fiberglass Topper Reinforcement for RTT - My setup...

I figured I'd share this here since when I was looking I only found a few.

First, I like the look of a fiberglass shell. I got a good deal on mine and even with the cost of the reinforcement and changing the side windows to windoors, I'm still at a lower investment than had I ordered a new one exactly how I wanted it or versus a smart topper.

I don't really enjoy metal fabrication these days, so I wanted to go the simple route. It costs more, but using aluminum extrusion proved to be a great solution for me. Bonus, I can now easily create mounts for just about anything I want to mount inside the shell. I drew this up in CAD and got it pretty close, but had to adjust the compound miters on the vertical pieces as I was assembling.

I use a Rhino rack for my RTT and it comes on and off easy. The bases for the rack are mounted to rails that were already on the roof. There is a center bolt that goes all the way through each mount and into the internal support with proper contact between the rack, roof, and internal support. The vertical supports meet the top rails right where the rack mounts are.

Some connecting brackets are pre-made and others I designed and made.

There are a lot of ways to do the same thing for cheaper. This is just the way I chose to do it.
