My daughter went from driving my RAV 4 to a 2013 Tacoma (first vehicle - not American hand me downs). Her job is out of town, is there something that can be added to gasoline that helps with mileage? She’s has a cover ordered. The tires are larger than average and also had been lifted before she bought it.

Beyond returning it to stock, no. That's a little harsh... So I'd add making sure general "tune up" type things are in order, i.e clean intake and air filter, good plugs, correct tire pressure etc... Fact is these trucks are known for marginal fuel economy. If she can 17-18 mpg +/- that's about all she'll get..

As said above, returning to stock seems like your only solution. Or sell, and purchase another RAV…. :bananadead: Sometimes these types of mistakes are the best ones learned.

She has always wanted a pickup truck. She doesn’t want to sell, just looking for suggestions.

What is her current fuel mileage??

Check the tire for a LT in front of the size or a P, LT is a much heaver tire, that can/will affect fuel mileage...

It’s the wheels and tires 1 st and lift second problem . Remember aftermarket wheels and tires add weight , and rolling mass , which kills mileage unfortunately. It looks nice but it aLmost always will make you loose gas mileage.

She’s had it for less than a week and hasn’t figured her gas mileage; she’s just wants to be prepared. The truck looks brand new, inside and out, so she wants to keep up the “tradition”.
She’s going to take it in to the fire place to get info, on the tires.

Hey in the end of the day it looks like a really nice truck. Down the road you can always change wheels and tires if you had to . Hopefully gas prices come down a little in the future. A truck will never be like a a small car . I would take one thing at a time and let her enjoy what she likes. Life is too short to worry about certain things . If you think about it . If taken care of these trucks are as reliable as it gets. So focus on the money saved there .

It has under 100,000. Everything looks like new; seems to have been taken care of. She’ll take care of it.

Have her budget her money and she won’t even notice gas expenses as much. Keep up with maintenance, and enjoy the ride!

She lives at home and rarely goes anywhere. I used to work for a country school and it seemed like most of the high school boys had big Ram trucks (raised with huge tires). I bet they couldn’t afford to do much, lol.

Stock (99.999%) OEM Bed Floor Mat, Front Bed Rail Cargo Net and hooks, Auto-Dim mirror w/Compass and outside Temperature display, TRD Pro Grille, Uni-Filter air pump modification, WeatherTech floor liners f/r. OEM All-Weather floor mats (summer).
Over the last three+ years of ownership, I have averaged approx 19 mpg in mixed, everyday driving. Worst was about 15. The best MPG I ever got was 24.0 on a long extended trip on I-95 in New Hampshire and central and northern Maine with the cruise on for miles. OEM/Stock tires on my truck with SR5 trim are: P245/75R16. No lift.

As a side note: just below 2,000 RPM seems like the limit on the highway for best MPG: Exceed it and the fuel economy drops off significantly in short order. I think this equates to just under 70 mph.

The biggest detriment to the gas mileage figures on my truck seems to be (IMO) the 4.0L V6: Putting your foot down/into it is way too much fun. :proposetoast:
