    Hello evwryone.
I am new to the group and have an interesting question for all you gear heads.
Just a quick bio, I've been working on vehicles, bikes, etc..for along time so I'm not new to diagnosing and repairing stuff.
Today while looking over my 05 tacoma, 4.0l i.noticed a some.oil in driveway. I checked my oil catch can and it looked like a dunkin special. See attached pict.

So I I thought maybe it was a leaking head gasket. I pulled dip stick, and oil is clean with no indication of coolant. So I pulled drain plug and oil is clean and fresh from the change I did 500 miles ago. Coolant level is topped off and no signs of leaking.
Truck has 250k and runs great. Im getting 18 mpg with no issues. New plugs, cleaned the maf, and throttle body.

Any idea why oil.in catch can looks so bad?

Thank you in advance.and I apologize for such a long post.

    /r
    K.P.

Condensation, same as what accumulates under oil cap. If your not losing coolant and oil looks great then there's no need to worry.

Looks normal to me for cold temperatures.
It’s condensation in the oil. The catch can being outside the engine only makes it worse. The oil is cooled by the cold air and never gets hot enough to cook off the condensation. And that’s what you get.

I wouldn’t give much thought into what oil in a catch can looks like on an NA motor.

Condensation was my final opinion too, especially being in up here in Maine but wanted a consensus of brain power.
    Thank you to everyone's input.

Yep, catch can doing its job. Empty it and continue on. That is all crud that was headed into the intake to be burned off. Some of which may carbonize into the corners.
