Toyota's response from the Brand Engagement Center was, in a word, strange. Banks received a letter from a "Legal Claims Analyst" that, aside from a friendly but clear refusal to offer any assistance on the matter, mentioned CarFax reports and lectured him on the perils of exceeding 85 mph. It suggests Toyota will deny warranty coverage if you simply dip into the throttle of its 300-hp hot hatch—one that comes with a complementary day at a race track. But that's only part of the issue.

I doubt if Toyota typically denies warranty claims if the vehicle exceeds 85mph.

I forgot the GR initially had caught fire under the hood. The guy filing a warranty claim after the insurance pay out for the total loss didn't do himself any favors there.

Ugh, what is this world coming too? Make a sports car and say you cannot exceed 85 MPH? There is legal posted speed limit of 85 MPH in Texas. What will happen when the new 400+ HP Celica if it hits the market. That will probably roll 85 MPH in 2nd gear. I've gotta just crawl back under my rock. :frusty:

80 mph but 85 without getting pulled over. It was safe and prudent! 100mph on the interstate wasn’t uncommon! Much over a 100 the Troopers would get ya though.

I could have sworn one of the Interstate highways was 90 mph....maybe I am mistaken.

Edit: You are right. I looked it up. I was so sure, but now I wonder if I am getting dementia....

The highest posted speed limit in the U.S. is on a section of HWY130 in Texas at 85mph (The highway starts just north of Austin and goes through the south side of San Antonio, and the 85 mph speed limit posting is listed for about 41 miles of the stretch the rest is 80 mph). After that Montana interstates are 80mph, certain sections of Utah and Idaho interstate also at 80mph, several states at 75mph and the rest mostly being 70mph with many states having lower speed limits for semi trucks and others having lower speed limits at night.

Easiest way is to go read the pinned thread. The TSB is there and should be a link for a lookup tool. If your truck was made before July then there is a good chance you are on the list. If you are on then list then don't freak out...just drive the truck like normal. You will more than likely be OK and never have an issue. But if you do then you are covered.
