    Hello All,

    Happy New Year to everyone!

I have a 2014 and generally issue -free. This morning, I started it and drove a short distance, not exceeding 20 mph, when I heard what I thought was a neighbor doing some loud metal cutting or grinding.. It was hard to decipher the cause, but I realized it was coming from my truck...

I only drove a few hundred feet at most, and it began diminishing, when I hit a small bump and it stopped altogether.

Oil is fine, I cant see anything suspicious underneath.

Has anyone any ideas on what that could have been? It was originally quite disturbing, just hard to pinpoint as noise reflects off of buildings, and there is wind from the window and other noises occurring at the same time, and it varied with speed. Im glad it disappeared, but it's still concerning.

    Thank you!

Could be a rock was stuck in one of your brakes and when you hit a bump it dislodged.

If it varied with speed, there is a good possibility that the type of noise you are describing could simply be caused by a pebble or other debris that lodged itself between one of the brake backing plates and a rotor. As you kept driving for a short distance, it may have gotten ground down enough for the noise to subside a little, and then popped out altogether when you hit that bump.

Take a look at your brake rotors to see if there is a groove in any of them (both sides). That will give you peace of mind if that turns out to be the cause.

And make sure that you have not had a bolt back out of the brake caliper.

Did you engage the parking brake the night before?
