rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
It's winter here in New England. That means a lot of "near freezing" driving for me as I make my way from "the banana belt" up to the ski area.
A solid trust in the air temperature display would go a long way in driving these twisting, wet, snowy and freezing mountain roads.

Any suggestions on how "best" to calibrate and understand the thermo sensor system? I KNOW the reading is stupid high just after starting out from the car park on a "near freezing" winter's morning.

I think the accuracy is pretty good. Every thermometer is going to be slightly different and the temperature is never going to be the same for long. The air temp. and pavement temp aren't nessesarily the same, either.

If you are super concerned, get a 3 pack of remote sensor thermometers and stick the sensor different places like on the side rear mirror or edge of the windshield or ....

Comparing mine to the displays on banks and such it is always within about 2 degrees.

2 Degrees for mine too; in how it relates to the Ambient Air Intake the ECU puts out to Techstream or an Ultra Gauge.

OP: The sensor is located in the middle of the vertical front frame support just in front of the condenser.

You'll do yourself more good learning how to read the road. The second thing you can do is learn how your vehicle feels when traction changes, it will feel different as the road turns to ice. I'll never trust a thermometer, air temp doesn't give you an accurate reading on what the ground is doing. It may give you a suspicion something's up, but it may already be too late.
