I’m getting eggcited, the Fishing Pole 395 holder is next! But I have to research quite a bit as to how to go about fastening the poles/gear. Above all, gotta make it look cool!

But these recent builds have given me some already. Good stuff

 

Well the header is done minutes the spring retainers on the collector. Had to shape the runners to the head flange, which was a pain in the ass, So I could weld them from the inside. My buddy is gonna clean up the flange and welds when he gets it back. I'll weld on the retainers when he gets back into town so he can pick where he wants them placed.

 

I've been known to weld the nut to the plate before welding the plate to the tube, so I can hide the nut.

 

Just gotta be sure of your welds.

That nut breaks the welds, you got a mess to deal with.

edit: At the same time, if you're using a nut on the outside to 'lock' the foot, you've kinda got it covered.

There's hardware made specifically for welding and it's what I use for adjustable feet/casters.

 

My brother bought me one of the mini harbor freight tool boxes. My local stores haven't gotten them since they've come out but one near him had them in stock. Been wanting one to put my tig consumables in. Gonna leave it on top of the fixture table.

They're referred to as 'half-mask respirators' quite a few options on the market

 

For sure, picked a Miller mask recently and it does help, even with a beard. As soon as I’m done welding and take it off, I can immediately smell the leftovers, particularly with aluminum.

 

Hey everybody, new here. What do y'all do when working near fuel lines (not the tank)? cover with scrap metal or wet rags?

I have this "fireproof blanket" I use often for covering items I don't want to get damaged by weld spatter.

 

correct. That is an excellent idea

 

I haven't cut into a wheel well/firewall at all, but I do know people used "wet rags" and the sort to prevent their vehicle insulation from catching fire when they weld new plate on.

But if you're doing any exterior work away from such things, and need to protect brake lines, fuel lines, etc, I wrap and cover items with my blanket. I used to have two but I'm down to one now because they worked really well (and I used it quite a bit).

I always ensure to disconnect the battery as precaution before welding on a vehicle.

but it's a little pricy for personal use...

another guy at work that's been re-building his race car highly recommended the harbor freight welding blankets. the standard/cheaper fiberglass blankets are literally one-use. sparks tend to damage them.
that version has a coating on it that is supposed to better reject sparks. the guy at works swears by it. i still have the standard/cheaper versions from before. with lots of holes in them.

 

Picked up this two pack which looks to be very similar since 6x8 is a bit large for me. I’ll see how it works. Says it is “carbon felt” which sounds far less soft than wool felt and much less fun than carbon fiber. Hopefully it does its job.
