Just trying to see if anyone has any ideas. We upgraded the speakers with Kicker plug and play all around. We kept the factory 8” display radio. The upgrade was great, but the sound quality was still lacking a bit. We talked with the guys at Crutchfield and got an amp and line out converter to help with clarity and sound. We have wired up the amp and LOC, both have power. But we now don’t have any sound. We have even tried to plug the factory harness back in to the factory radio, but we have no sound there either. Is there anything we should check to see why the speakers are not producing any sound. Thanks for any help.

    Can you provide more details?
What year Tacoma? Model (SR5, Sport, Offroad, etc) Does it have the “Premium” sound (do you see “JBL” on the front door speakers)?
    Checked fuses?
Assume the HU turns on, but no sound… is that right?
Everything else in the truck works?

One guy on here, recently, added an amp but mixed up his input & outputs from the amp. Make sure all connections in the amp & line out converter are all seated (and in the correct places).

Sorry, should have put more detail. It is a 2022 TRD Off Road. Not the “premium” JBL system. Checked all fuses and nothing blown. Head unit powers up like normal just no sound. Either with the amp T wire connected or the factory connected harness. Everything else in the truck works. Not sure if we have blown something in the head unit.

Crutchfield has pretty good support. I would start with there.

So if I understand correctly, you replaced all six speakers with Kickers (2 dash, 2 front doors, 2 rear doors). That upgrade worked, but the sound wasn't what you were expecting. Fine.

Then you added a four channel amp and four channel line-out converter... You did this with harnesses, and did not cut / modify any factory wiring. Essentially, the head unit feeds the L-O converter, which feeds the amp, which then feeds your speakers via factory wiring?

Did you make the T-harness yourself? Or was something made for you?

    This and that
I have a very similar setup I’ve been staring at and scratching my head.

What kicker amp is it? Which harnesses did you use?

there is a “radio” detect button on the amp kicker 47key200.4. I have…. It’s there to turn the amp on. But it says to press that button if you’ve got no sound. otherwise.

Me, too. There is an entire thread (and I've been a part of it) on upgrading the stock "premium non-JBL" head unit for $250 (now adjusted for inflation), so I am wondering what was done.

If you plugged the radio back in the way it was when the speakers worked something’s wrong with that radio or also check the fader settings
Make sure you didn’t miss a plug.

If you installed everything correctly, and have not sound, then I would think you have a faulty LO converter that has now blown the output circuit of the head unit. If you accidentally wired up something wrong, I would be thinking that the a short has blown the output circuit of the headunit.

I would carefully inspect the wiring to make sure there is no accidentally shorts. Return to factory wiring and run that for a little while and see if the headunit resets itself. Then if the headunit resets, correct the issue with the wiring or components.
