What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

When I bought the truck, 3 of the 4 door speakers were functional.
Now I am down to 2.

So this weekend, when I had time:
Replaced 1 of 4 door $hitbird speakers from the factory with Morels.

It was a fight for sure, as I broke 4 clips just starting out.
Next is driver's side door and crap speakers into the trash.

And still at 2 door speakers that are functional.

 

get a panel tool. Super worth it, never break a door panel clip again.

 

End of deer season wash and detail.

 

Truck turned 20 so I got her some collectors plates. Pretty ugly with the red and blue but I’m done paying annual registration fees.

 

Anybody know the part number for cam subassembly toe ad.

Order got cancelled from ToyotaPartsDeal, saying they’re either discontinued or have on back order with no date in mind….Ive got 2 seized up on the rear so I’ll need new ones.

 

I did these. I didn't want to use Amazon but I needed two more. When compared to the OEM ones I bought I couldn't make out any differences.

Reused some gaskets during my header install and what do you know, they leaked. Replaced both egr tube gaskets, egr to intake gasket, and new cat gasket. No more annoying exhaust leak. Have an oil pan leak to fix before the cold comes in.

 

your single cab makes me want to clean up my old 96’ single cab. Really sharp looking rig.

 

Rear diff gear oil change (Man, that stuff is thick, especially when it might well be the original oil... Took about a half-centimeter of sludge off the drain plug magnet.), and fixed the parking brake - new intermediate lever return spring got it so the stupid light doesn't stay on.

 

Aaahhh the diff oil fragrance!!!

 

do they limit the amount of time the taco can spend on public roads with those plates?
how much were the annual registration fees for ya?
i have to wait until 30 years passed to entertain getting plates such as those here
but the annual fees have been 99$ for the longest spell + 70$ for the specialty taco message plates

 

I believe the only limitations are that the car/truck is at least 20 years old, you have an additional registered vehicle and you are not allowed to drive it during January. It was a one time $250 fee. A regular registration would’ve cost me $170 so it’s a good call as long as you happen to have a second vehicle and you aren’t planning to drive during the winter. I hate to not use the truck in the winter but she’s rust free so I’m trying to ensure it stays that way here in Wisconsin.

Man, these look so good on RP-F1s.

I installed this gauge pod/panel thing I designed.

 

Uninstalled/installed my coils on new shocks and put the coilovers on the truck. My shop press coil remover/installer an epic win! I dare not post those pics.

 

First one is EGT I'd wager, second is boost pressure, but what's the last? The scale seems too small for anything automotive, unless it's just ambient air.

 

It's ambient air. I would have preferred oil pressure or oil temp, but VDO doesn't offer that gauge style in full-sweep and electric, only in capillary, and I'm not into running capillary tubes all over into the cab. EGT and boost are because it's a TDI swap. I like having an outside air temp reading, which is currently one of the small gauges seen in the lower panel. I'm not super dead set on keeping the VDO gauges, but no matter what I go with they need to match the cluster as closely as possible.

 

I personally like the look of VDO gauges the most too, although they tend to match Euro cars a bit better (half the OE clusters are built by them anyway). Only gauges I like equally are SpeedHut and they're spendy but fully customizable which can be nice. Nice setup! I have a little 3d printed gauge cluster in that area too, but mine uses some OLED displays and an arduino to talk to my aftermarket ECU.

 

I'd like to see that!

I ordered one of these Zada Tech OLED gauges to see if I could make it work anywhere. Also kind of spendy, but neat.
