    You should be able to read the transmission temps with a Scan Gauge.

    This, or you can buy a Bluetooth OBDII dongle and an app for your phone, for not much money.
    Don't know about a mechanical gauge, or it would be worth the hassle, when most of it is built in, you just need a readout of the sensor/s that's already there.
