I've always used wix filter and I've always had a slight knock while the engine is cold. I just figured it has 160k miles and I'm not the original owner.

I couldn't get a wix this last time so I used a Purolator boss. No knock at any temperature.

I changed back to wix this service and the knock was back. After two days I changed back to Purolator. No knock again.

The Boss boasts a, “Double-Helix Metal Center Tube built with superior strength and designed for optimal oil flow”. The Wix, I presume the XP, boasts “hybridized synthetic fibers”. Maybe other more free flow filters will reduce the chatter as well.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Certainly interesting, every 2.7 I've had has a cold weather knock... I should say sub 25*, because above that they're silent.
