There is currently a 76'long x 60'wide campershell for sale near me on a Dakota but the listing says it fits Toyotas? The bed dimensions seem pretty similar but I was wondering if I could get a second opinion before I do anything. I have an access cab long bed.

Go for it. That’s my opinion. Get the correct clamps, too.

Some are close but nothing will fit quite right, if you care about keeping water out and visual appearance hold out for a matching one. Or pick that up in the meantime if you need it while you keep looking.

I would never waste my money on a canopy that doesn't specifically fit on the truck. Some won't fit at all, due to the angle of the rear of the cab and the front of the canopy. Even a 2nd to 3rd gen Tacoma, they'd fit differently. Far more likely for it to leak, too.

Just measured my Access Cab Long bed and 76x60 might fit, might not. I'd see if I could cross reference the 2 on the manufacturer's website.

There are other considerations though. Some cabs are different enough that while the base may fit, the cab may interfere or may look cosmetically funky.

If I couldn't find that info I'd certainly do a thorough test fit before purchase.

The 6' Access Cab bed and 6' Double Cab beds are the same dimensions. But the back of the cab is shaped differently. Not sure if it will fit, or fit and look funky if not a perfect match

Correct. I believe its a single cab that has the sharper back of the cab. The access/double cab caps overhang forward a bit so they will contact or be very close to rubbing on a single cab. You can put a single cab cap on a double cab without issue it just looks a little weird at the transition line.

yeah, but regular cab owners have reported that non regular cab caps do fit without rubbing. I think it’s real close

yeah last picture I saw was very close like 1/4" or something. Depends on how you use your truck and where you position your cap

I recently put together enough money to have a local business make a custom aluminum cap for my 2012. Our well pump quit, and that pretty much ate up all my funds! After having the pump I replaced, I started searching for a used cap. Found one on FB marketplace that just said "76x65" aluminum cap. $200. Good shape. Went ahead and grabbed it. Spent about $60 on black Gorilla patch & seal, re-siliconed the top rivets, and took off the funky adaptors someone added to make it fit something else. I'm tickled pink with how it turned out. Doesn't leak, has fold open side windows, and was actually made by the same local fellow who I was going to buy from anyway. Has just a smidgen of overhang on the sides at the rear where the bedsides taper in. For about 1/10th the cost.

The angle of the back of the cab is also a major factor.

I'm a little late to this thread but have some pictures that might help. The DC and AC Leer 100s (for the same year, 2015) are shaped different.

(Edit - the AC and DC might be the same, the one that doesn't fit shown below might be for a regular cab? Added another comparison photo...)

From the thread below, the author said "The shell lines match up pretty well but the top section comes towards the cab and is really close and looks a little off. My big concern here is the moment I take this off-road that it will start rubbing my cab and ruining my paint."

See post #1 and #11 here:

Left - Access cab (photo is not mine, owner bought the canopy used)
Right - Double cab (my vehicle, ordered new at a Leer dealer for my model)

Grey truck looks fine,Blue truck looks like the edges of the shell will rub on the cab in heavy offroading.

This is NOT correct for the 2nd Gen 6' bed. The AC and DBL cab have the same rear cab profile. See post #17 in the above referenced post.

It is hard enough to get a close to watertight fit on the 2nd Gens with shells regardless of make and model. You must absolutely verify the fit for a 2nd Gen. Close will only disappoint in look, use, dryness and grief.

If you are concerned about dust and /or water intrusion, I found this video helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8MX0RvSCXg by Super Pacific.
I installed the EPDM rubber Ultimate Tailgate Seal from Extruded Solutions, Inc. (Made in the USA) ordered from ExtrudedSolutions.com and their other site TailgateSeal.com. I printed the installation instructions to have on the tailgate during installation for reference. This is the direct link to the kit: https://extrudedsolutions.com/products/ultimate-tailgate-seal-10ft
