Amazing, alert an sitting up too. I’ll have to pay attention and see if my pup is watching like yours for anything with animals.

One of the hardest days I’ve had as a dog dad. Took Artie in to the emergency vet today because he has been struggling to pee with nothing coming out, not the first time, happened about a year ago then cleared up before the vet could see anything wrong, we have suspected he has some strange anatomy (his nickname is Little Smokey, poor guy gets ridiculed for a small shvantz).

He’s been there almost 12 hours and they’re doing tests, and recommending more, which you know isn’t good.

The “C” work was floated, possible bladder or urethral cancer. I lost it when the doctor said she was worried.

My wife is coming home from Minnesota tomorrow after taking care of her mom after a surgery for a week, and I can’t even tell her, she’s just coming down from weeks of stress about that.

Not her first dog, but her first from an 8 week old puppy.
IMG_3947.jpg The day we drove him home, he just sat in the passenger seat as my wife ran in to the store and looked at me, like, “Hello, what’s your story?”
    IMG_3906.jpg
He’s only 3 for the sake of Christ.

Please send your prayers Artie’s way, he’s a good dog, I can’t even imagine the toll it would take on my wife, it’ll devastate me as well.

I definitely take care of them, but nothing bad will happen. If the truck is moving, they are inside the truck already, shedding pounds of white hairs everywhere haha.

My brother had a dog who suffered from bladder stones and it would cause intermittent recurring issues like that.

Praying for the best possible outcome for Artie and you guys.

That’s good to know about the herbal stuff, we give our dogs probiotics, pumpkin, allergy supplements, my lab has no issues with the supplements, she’s had goopy eyes since the day I picked her up in Minnesota at 8 weeks, the allergy stuff seems to help to her eyes and helps Artie with itching, they play in the tall grass at our place and it messes them both up.

He’s back to peeing, so that’s definitely a relief. I sat with the doctor at midnight as she walked through the x-ray with the dye.

The doctor said she was concerned because she couldn’t see the urethra from the bladder, there was about an inch from the base of the bladder that was not visible, I saw the x-rays and I see what she’s talking about.

We started with an ultrasound $2000, couldn’t see what she wanted, then it went to the x-ray $600, then she said a urinalysis specific for cancer would be another $800, by the time I talked to her at 10:30 at night they wanted to keep him over the weekend and do a CT scan, $10k-$12k, all while I’m trying to keep this from my wife until she gets home.

This place is well rated and I know him not being able to utinate is serious, but emergency vets can put you in a bad spot.

I had to tell her I’m going full stop, definitely not paying 12 grand on a hunch.

They didn’t rule out kidney stones or crystals in his bladder from a urinalysis, but when they put in a catheter, they said they felt no blockage and saw nothing. His bladder was completely full, so they drained it.

It’s still concerning because we know nothing, nothing can be ruled out. May be a bladder disease, possibly cancer, possibly he just has strange anatomy with his tiny weiner, frustrating.

I think the next step is a cancer specific urine analysis at his normal vet.

I don’t blame the doctor, she had good intentions and spent a lot of time with him, but she’s young, mid-late 20’s, maybe early 30’s, not sure her approach was necessary.

Thank you to everyone for the kind thoughts, I was at a loss yesterday. Wife is home and she’s calm about it, she had enough emotional stress dealing with her family over the last week.

Glad to hear he's able to pee. I remember talking to the vet with my first Chocolate about his diabetes. It can be hard to comprehend what's being asked or explained. Especially at 2am in the parking lot.

Hopefully, things continue to improve for your pup.
