I had a Nissan before the Taco. Remote start stayed on when you opened the doors. Had to remember (dash message is there to help) to press brake and start button to keep running before taking off. The duration was even 15 min. instead of 10.

Get one with a key. No issues here!

God damn, been driving around for 2 days thinking my 23 Taco is broken, shuts off when I use remote start when I open door. Paid Stealer $750 to install this headache lol..hmm still within my 7days return period..Crazy my 09 Sierra shitbox had a normal remote, press brake to go...This might take a bit to get used to but seems a bit crazy to need to double start my vehicle..Can we convert from push start to a key? Lol

We had a thread on here about that. Resounding answer was no.

As annoying as the remote start shutoff might be, it’s a pick your battles thing. Stack it up against the issues with other brands.

I personally don’t use the remote start. A key would be nice though. Used to just reach in my old car and fire it up on cold days. Worked great, sometimes simpler is better.

Lift, wheels, tires, sliders, and skidplates...so far.
I enjoyed the remote start on my 2021 for the first year of the free trial on the Toyota app. I used to use it every morning to "cool down" my truck by having the AC on while I was getting dressed (I live on the surface of the sun....aka Arizona). However, I hated the fact that it always shut off when I opened the door and once the free trial ended, I did not elect to sign up to pay for that convenience. The only thing I really miss about the app was when it would notify me that I left the door unlocked, which I did a surprising number of times.

Agreed, simple is good, but when it's -45c out remote is good

Not really. I had a 2020 Honda civic and when I used my remote start and opened door it kept running. You would have to have the key in the car to properly engage the transmission etc. probably wording that wrong. But without the key even if you hopped in you couldn’t drive the car unless you did the usual start function which would require the key. This is just a poor design, probably a cheaper design.

I agree. Newer (full take-over) remote start is really nice to have. Super easy on installing. A must have in my opinion.

I’ve owned 11 cars since 2000. All had remote starts, none turned off when you open the door except my Tacoma. A coworker has a ‘21 Lexus SUV with factory app remote start. Hers does not shut off. And she’s using the Lexus app. She laughs at me every time we walk out together…Make it stop Toyota!!! My wife has an Acura MDX with push button start. It does not shut off.

I've had many non-Toyota vehicles in the past. All had remote starts that the engine would stay on even after opening doors. You could even repeat the start feature to have engine running 2 or 3 times longer. Just had to put foot on brake and push start button before shifting to D or R. Toyota system is not user friendly and is not a safety feature.

Toyota claims it is a safety feature. I strongly disagree. If I start my truck and run inside someone can just as easily steal the truck. Makes zero sense to me
