With not insignificant help from you guys, I FINALLY finished the 99 2.7 rebuild. Started with a hope that it would be just head gasket, but quickly become more and more and more. When it was fully apart, it was:
Crank and one rod, bore 10 or 20 over, pistons, rings etc, balance shaft delete, new head and all the other normal rebuild stuff.

What I do know is the po, keep trying to use radiator stop leak until it worked and killed the engine. Mutliple water passages into the head were plugged. That took quite a while to clean up. But it runs perfect now and I can feel the engine starting to loosen up and generate the awesome power that a 2.7 can provide.

In any case the head was good except a crack between a spark plug hole and a valve seat. Would any of you be able to use it or any of the parts? I don't think there was any damage to valves or cams or whatever else could be pulled from it. I wanted to give you guys an opportunity to grab parts for the cost of shipping and whatever you want to donate. If I get anything donated, it goes to the animal shelter here. Otherwise the head goes in the metal scrap bin and off to the recycler.

    Happy new year!

The 2.4 in my 03 took over 8k miles to break in... by that I mean oil consumption went from 1 qt every 1500-1800 miles to zero. Switched to synthetic after that.

I was thinking about pulling the cams too. I'll get to it in a few weeks, fighting with an Aerostar right now.
