Just learned about Kuat Ibex Bed Rack. It has a minimalist look and also looks stylish. They are apparently making panels that will transform the rack into a full camper shell...

I think this will beat all of the current products in the market today... What I want though is a front and rear panel with glass option so I can see who's following or who's at the back...

Cool idea as long as it's built to maintain a proper load. Aside from waterproofing issues I've always wondered why this wasn't an option. Gives you a lot of freedom and flexibility.
After watching the video though it looks like it would take some major elbow grease to disassemble and assemble it to flip between rack and cap. I was expecting something more user friendly in the modularity department. I could just take all the doors off my alu cab for the same amount of time it would take to transform this. Everything on the Ibex looks to be bolted down in the traditional way. I would almost worry that flipping between rack and cap too many times would end up with stripped threads and such.

    Good idea, disappointing execution.

Cost will be everything. Specialized systems like this tend to be overpriced for the different set ups and limits mass sales for the overall market. It will absolutely interest buyers but the fewer sold due to pricing will equal higher manufacturing costs and will limit overall sales.

For renters, it will create storage issues if different set ups are purchased.

If they can mass market and control pricing, they have a good chance, if they don't or get greedy, it'll be a flash in the pan with stranded replacement part availability.

They have become greedy, almost the same as ARE or Leer shells. LMAO

The Ibex has supposedly been available for a couple years now, but I have yet to see one in the wild.

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
Not cast shade on what I see is a great idea in the IBEX product, but......

A Softopper and a Tule Trac One bed rack works just fine for all the purposes I have needed.
There is a bit of fabrication associated with proper bed rails. But I only have about $1250 into the setup. (bought both topper and rack when "on Sale)

eta Images in the Show me your Softopper thread
