Cruise Control Issue 2005 Tacoma

Cruise Control not working. The light comes on but the cruise control does not engage. Speedometer will periodically not work when truck is first started but will work after a few miles of driving. Not sure if they are connected with one another.

 

Cruise won't work if the speedometer doesn't work because the instrument cluster provides the vehicle speed signal to the ECM.

If your truck is a manual there is also a switch at the top of the clutch arm that tells the CC unit if you start to depress the clutch. If is isn't adjusted properly it will keep the CC from engaging

 

My cruise control stopped working and the light still turned on. My issue was the clock spring behind the steering wheel. Now if your having issue with the speedometer then I would start looking there.
