anyone have an idea of the extra height difference between most of mid size cap compare to regular one. i was looking for Leer 180 or one of the 100 models. i want to build a compact camper and also fit my mtb inside while i am not sleeping in it.

Most manufacturers list these things called "specifications" that would provide that information. You might start there.
Take the front wheel off and almost any bike will fit inside a camper shell.

To carry my bikes I need close to 40 inches of height so I have a SnugTop HiLiner Sport.
If you are short a cab=hi might work.

I have a 23” high DCU (aluminum) cap. There is about 39” of height inside, although the door is shorter

There’s more to it than just ceiling height and door height. I have a 3rd gen longbed with a Leer 180 shell. If I remember correctly the 180 is 4” taller than the 100. I have a drawer/bed with space for the bike next to it. With my setup the bike cannot be right in the center due to the drawer. So with the bike offset to right the angle of the sides of the door opening become more of an issue than the total height. The sides of the door are not vertical, it angles in tighter at the top. That becomes an issue for the handlebar on that side even though the handlebar is shorter than the seat (which is dropped).

Here’s a pic of how tight it is. A Leer 100 would not work for me. My handlebar wouldn’t clear the side of the door if the door was 4” shorter. Turning the bars isn’t a solution either since the other bar would then be in contact with the rear window/door. As it is my rear tire is already up against the front wall of the truck bed. I’m getting a 4th gen next and with the bed being a couple inches deeper than a 3rd gen I might be able to get away with a flush mount shell but it’ll be close.

For reference that is a 29” Pivot Switchblade, size medium with a dropper post. The sliding shelf the bike is mounted to also costs me 1 inch of height.

That is very appreciated thank you. Can you please tell me the width of your bed because that might help for my set up if my bike can be a bit more center. i was planning a 28 inches bed. Your bike must be longer than my large ibis ripmo because i did a test and the rear wheel doesn't touch the front wall. I will not install a sliding tray so i guess it will be easier to get my bike in.

My bed is 27” wide measured from the part just inside the tailgate. (Sorry for holding the tape crooked.. Dad would not approve)

Here you go... got this from Leer. These are heights from the top of the bed rail for most of the specs provided (first 3 columns).
