Not like this is Earth Shattering revelation or anything but.

I mean ..are their Idler pulleys made from gold? Are they greased with the sweat from 1000 vestal virgins? Amazon Idler pulleys for my 2017 Tacoma Sport from a variety of manufacturers are between $19 and $46 and shipped inside 2 days. I waited a week and well..a PCV Valve replacement and top Idler pulley you can see the damage in Bill Image.
Before you say you shouldhave done it yourself..etc etc. I would like to but i live in a Condo that are rediculously strict about people fixing their cars in the parking lot and it was -20c with the windchill today..so no.:santa2:

I just do not understand how Toyota can expect people to want to buy their future offerings or use their service department after warranty expires with these prices. Not to forget mentions they just put their aervice Hourly fee up to $150/hour now (Canadian) as well.

One can never have too many light bars.
Those fancy dealers didn't get built from selling cars, they make most of their money on getting a percentage of interest from financing and the service department having hefty margins from parts sales and labor hours.

You can buy the parts online and take them to an independent shop to have them installed. You could have paid half that and most likely got better performance from the tech.

That nauseating feeling you got is from the labor charges. Labor has always been more costly than parts. Always will be.

On the first gens you can replace just the bad bearing for like $10. I suppose the new designs are easier to produce at scale, or lighter, without a snap ring.

You can do the same on these idlers. An arbor press or shop press and a bag of 10 bearings on the Zon for $14. With as much water and mud I go through, I have a couple under the back seat and can change them out with the belt still on the truck in under 10 mins!

Did you agree to the amount before work was started?

Interesting. I tried this on my gx, and couldnt get the new bearing to stay in the pulley, it walked sideways and ended grinding the pulley on its washer. I figured either my pressing wasn't straight enough, or the pulley was designed to only be pressed once. Is there a trick to it?

Press the old bearing out towards the "closed" side of the pulley (front) and then press the new bearing in the opposite direction. I think the "open" side is a little smaller and if you press the bearing that way, it will stretch the ID a little causing the bearing to be too loose.

Wow! I did all three idlers and the belt on my 2nd gen for less than that one cost you. I was a 2 beer job in my garage. I did not go with OEM due to the ease of replacement. No big deal if I have to do it again in a couple of years.

As for the labor. $150 seems to be the going rate. My local independent shop charges $125 an hour for the jobs that I don’t want yo take on myself.

Go to an independent shop. Don't need a dealer tech for this kind of simple maintenance work.

Continental pulley made in Canada is $60 + shipping: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=2166898&cc=0&pt=6956
    $74 local https://www.thewrenchmonkey.ca/products/auto-parts/continental/49127/

But ask your dealer for their labor rate on hybrid and electric drive system diagnosis for a laugh :) It's probably $300/hr.

1st thing I did was stay away from the Stealership once my Warranty ended. The hourly overhead cost is almost double of an independant garage. Finding a trustworthy garage isn't easy, but they're out there.

Buying oem vs aftermarket parts is another story. Good luck with that Paul.

Sounds about right for dealer service to me...

I have never understood the pricing structure for OE parts. It is almost as if they don't want to sell the parts.
