Kenwood still incompatible with Steering wheel controls?

Really want a Garmin in dash navigation, big sticking point is not having Blue tooth steering wheel controls work.

I thought I read some where that a new version of the steering wheel adapter may have solved this. Anyone have a kenwood unit working with the oem steeping wheel blue tooth controls?

 

Model numbers help, from there out google is your friend. Its hard to help you without knowing exactly what you're getting.

 

You can get the right side controls to work as custom programable buttons. It wont do seperate answer and hang up like stock... doesnt matter to me as the massive button on the screen is more conveninet and easier to hit than the steering wheel button. The voice activate button on the Kenwood's with voice activation must use the Kenwood supplied button. This is also easier as I put it in a more convenient location. You can program that button to do something else though.

I really want a Garmin capable DD HU, just sick of the GPS wires. Then you add the cool new stuff they can do with an iphone, I think I am ready to make that leap. I do like an OEM look and it would drive me crazy if the blue tooth buttons sat there useless. Sounds like Poineer is still the only option for easy use of the buttons. For Navigation purposed I like Garmin and have a hiking unit and a nuvi, so I m just used to the way garmins work and have done some cool custom stuff with them.

Thats is the reason I asked, had hoped I could get pointed to a good Kenwood model that works with the steering wheel controls.

 

I own a 9960. I thought the right side buttons would bother me. I now realize that was kind of silly. I spent 150 dollars installing those buttons as I had a non jbl system. If it does not bother me I doubt it would bother anyone. I prefer using the voice button the kenwood provided. I also prefer that big button on the screen as its easier to find and use than the steering wheel. If the Steering wheel buttons did work perfectly you would still never use them.

 

Kenwood has always been able to be used.

You cannot get voice control button on steering wheel to do voice control activation. You have to use the supplied button on a cord that plugs in.

The left side works fine and is not what the OP is concerned with.

Also the function is not seperate answer and end call buttons ut a single answer/hung up button for the JACK.

 

Dooooo it. I'm real nit-picky about stuff like this, too. I don't have the right side buttons, but I used the

$46 SWI-JACK Steering Wheel Control Module Designed for Clarion, Kenwood, Alpine, JVC and Blaupunkt

SWI-JACK to get the left side going with my Kenwood DNX-6160. It's the best mod I've done to the truck. The Garmin nav is the bee's knees and everything else is excellent, too... including the ipod/iphone adaptability. I wouldn't worry about the blutooth buttons on the right... The kenwood's setup is probably more functional anyway.

 

I have the dnx7160 I was going to get the

$46 swi-jack steering wheel control module designed for clarion, kenwood, alpine, JVC and blaupunkt

swi-jack but i figured i would use it for a while to see how much i missed the steering wheel buttons. I gotta tell you I really don't miss them at all and i thought i would. I think the interface on the unit has a lot better functionality and its simple to use once you get used to it. I find myself using the remote a lot, more than any other stereo i have had. I may install the swi-jack in the future just for the heck of it, but its in no way a necessity. You will love the Gps nav on the kenwoods Its like twice maybe even three times faster than the handhelds. It works great and the traffic service to my surprise works just about spot on. The bluetooth integration for my phone is awesome too. I could go on all night. No regrets at all even without the steering controls

 

Did you do the install yourself? How difficult is it. Just leased a 2011 Double Cab TRD and want Nav.
