I have an issue with my TPMS sensors, but I don't see it covered anywhere else. I have a 2016 Tacoma, and recently had the tires rotated due to cupping on the inside of the front tires. The service guy rotated left front to right rear, right front to left rear, etc. Now my TPMS light comes on and doesn't read tire pressure from any tires. I have used the reset method, it didn't work. Tried again, it still didn't work. Then I got in my truck, cranked it, and the light was off with pressure reading on all four tires. Now, it comes and goes. Sometimes it reads pressure, sometimes not. Any suggestions? I really would like to get this corrected without buying four new sensors if that's possible. Thanks in advance for the help!

Most likely starting to lose battery life. Pretty common on 2016-2017's...going on 10 years old now.

Would that effect all four sensors at the same time? To be honest, I'm not really familiar with how these work.

Sensor batteries at the end of life, cold makes the problem worse.

The system either reads all or none.

For the last few years mine (2017 original) works fine all summer, as soon as the temperature gets in the low 50's it quits.

It could take a few days for the sensors to work.... Give it a few, and report back.

And if not, they are due!

Mine are doing that same. Is there a DIY way to replace the batteries?

Not really unless you have access to a tire machine. You'll need to remove the tire and replace the valve stem/tpms. I'm not aware of any that have replaceable batteries.

They run about $25 each on Rock Auto or about $50 each if you order from the Toyota dealer. Take it to a tire shop.

You can buy 4 new sensors from various places for $40-$60 for the set. I've bought several sets from Amazon with no issues. That's less than the price of a tank of gas every 7-10 years. Any tire store will install and program them at no cost if you're buying tires. About $10-$15 each to break down tires and replace them if you're not buying tires.

I replace mine proactively before they die with every other set of tires. That works out to about once every 6-7 years. I MIGHT get another set of tires before they die, but no more than they cost I don't push it. 7-10 year is the typical life. It comes out cheaper to just replace them with new tires.

If you're close to needing new tires anyway I'd just deal with it until you buy tires. If you're tires are fairly new with several more years before you need new ones I'd bite the bullet and replace them.
