Rough Country support says that the RC molle panels are not compatible with the Bakflip Tonneau cover. Anyone have suggestions of molle panels that will work in a 2024 Tacoma with a Bakflip tonneau?

    Appreciate it.

I have the RC panels. I used blind nuts for the top mounting points, pointing the Z brackets upside down from what RC has when you install them under the bed rail. Installed the Z brackets into the same mounting holes on the panels. Basically, I installed the tops just like you would the bottom bracket.s

I also had to trim off the finger on the driver side panel to fit around the bed power/USB door correctly.

I csn get you some pics tomorrow if you want to see.

Wow, thanks so much for this information. I would love some photos if you are able. I will be doing the same modifications you did.

In the meantime I'll be studying up on what a blind nut is :)

They're useful for when you can only access one side of a panel, like a truck bed. you drill a hole, tap one in, and use a tool to expand it so it expands and locks into the hole. Remove the tool, and you can insert a bolt.

It would be more helpful to use the search term, rivet nut.

Not sure why RC would say their molle panels don't work with the Bakflip. RC's molle panels fit under the bed rail. Bakflip mounts on top. So there doesn't seem to be a conflict there. I would say the drain tubes can be routed over the front molle panel.

Now molle panels that mount on top of the bed rail, like Caliraised, might clash for space on top of the bed rail.

As well, Rago Fabrication and Toyota both have molle panels that mount behind the bed rail.

in my experience, mounting the brackets behind the rail made the space between the rails too narrow, and the Bakflip wouldn't drop and snap in.

they're known by a lot of names. Why you didn't chastise me for not calling them half-blind, since they aren't fully blind.

None intended. They are commonly sold as rivet nuts in the US. The intention was to help the OP, not bruise any egos.

    Hi,

New here, but I can assist on the Molle panel issue. The tonneau attachment brackets provided when installed by Toyota cause the bedrail to sit 1/4" out and 1/4" down from the original factory bedrail mounting location, so you loose clearance you would have otherwise. The Rago, Victory, and various Amazon provided versions all rely on the rail being positioned in the original position. Getting the factory tonneau cover makes it a DIY project to get the Molle panel systems to work.

Thanks! I purchased and installed the Bakflip Tonneau from Rough Country. I just assumed their molle panel would be compatible. But I was wrong :(

Thanks for the reply. I believe the RC molle panels aren't compatible with the RC Bakflip because the Bakflip clips/latches use the existing bedrails. If you mount the RC molle panel as designed, the mounting brackets sit behind the existing bedrails causing them to be in a different location. Then the RC Backflip panels don't latch when you close them.
