I need calcification on following question with 2009 Toyota Tacoma 4 X 4 with the 4.0 L V6 with towing Package. The GCWR on the driver's door shows (5450 lbs)

I have searched this on the internet and talked with dealers and I have found articles that show that with the tow package that any truck with a 4.0L engine and 4X4 drive train with the towing package increases the GCWR to 11,000 lbs

Is this correct? and if so why does the door panel spec show only 5450 lbs for the GCWR

My door sticker says GVWR rather than GCWR.

My 2009 Tacoma Owners Manual states the same: "Gross Trailer Weight" max is 3500 lbs w/o and 6500 lbs with towing package. It then states The combination of the Gross Trailer Weight + Total Weight of Vehicle cannot exceed 8100 lbs w/o towing package, 11000 lbs with towing package. The sticker on the door is normally more accurate then the manual, my 2009 has an updated door sticker covering the old one because the GVWR changed for for some reason.

It doesn't say that. 5450 is GVWR. You mis-read it.

There is a statement on the sticker that reads "The combined weight of passengers and cargo should not exceed XXXX pounds". That number is your payload, and it is typically between 1100-1200 lbs for a 2nd gen 4X4 Double Cab. The actual weight varies depending on the individual truck.

Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is the total combined weight of the truck, any passengers and cargo. Suppose you have 1200 lbs payload. The GVWR is 5450-1200 means your truck actually weighed 4250 lbs when it was manufactured. The 1200 lbs of payload includes any passengers, cargo AND the tongue weight of a trailer.

The Tow rating is based on perfect conditions. As in an empty truck other than a driver and on level roads at sea level. The more weight you put in the truck with passengers and cargo the less trailer you can tow. If you tow at altitude and in mountains you need to also reduce the weight you tow

Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) is the total weight of the truck AND a trailer. It can get confusing, but you have to look at all of the factors. It is very easy to be within GCWR and well under the tow rating, but still be over the GVWR.

A 5000 lb trailer will put 650 lbs on your tongue leaving about 550 lbs available payload for passengers and cargo in the truck. That's not much. A skinny driver and passenger will be 300 lbs, Two large adult men could easily be over 500 lbs. My wife and I are 360 combined, 140+220.

I am still confused maybe some can help me out with the calculation on pulling a trailer and Atv.

The dealers I have talked to have not been very helpful giving me an answer of if my truck can pull the below trailer.

I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma 4 X 4 with the 4.0 L V6 with towing Package. The GVWR on the driver's door shows (5450 lbs) and my manual says it has a towing capacity of 6500 lbs with a towing package.

Vehicle loaded: People 400 lbs and Cargo at 200 lbs
Trailer is dual axle with breaks and weighs empty: 1587 lbs
    ATV Fully Loaded: 1700 Lbs
Additional Trailer Loads: 300 lbs +/-
    Total Load: 3500

    1. Can my truck pull this trailer with truck load, trailer, Atv and trailer loads?
    2. What would be the calculation look like?

I also found one article that referenced the GVWR goes to 11,000 lbs with the 4 X 4 with the 4.0 L V6 with towing Package. It said the original dealer probably forgot to change the sticker.

I have tried trailer weight calculators on the internet and the only way I can get to the trailer towing weight of 6500 lbs as specified in the Toyota manual is use the GVWR of 11,000 lbs.

    1. Yes, but you need to install a trailer brake controller if you haven't already. Otherwise the trailer brakes on your trailer are useless.

    2. If you do in fact have the V6 towing package as you stated, yes, you are fine towing that. 3500 is far less than the 6500 rating.
