I don't know what to call this problem I am having on my taco. Matter fact I don't even know if this is a problem or if its a norm. Almost 90% of the times I brake I get a slight kick when I come to a complete stop. ( If that even makes sense) and with the kick I can her a "thud" noise. I don't know what could cause this which is why I am reaching out. My neighbor also owns a first gen Taco, and when I asked him about it he said that his does the same thing saying it is normal for this gen of Tacoma. Any help would be appreciated.

    Miles?
    This “thud”
Felt/u think it’s coming from under the center of the seats?
    any humming heard/felt when driving?

my internet guess is Carrier Bearing

my miles are at 152k. And I do hear some humming and I also thought that was from the Carrier Bearing. And yeah the kick feels mostly under the front seats, But do you think the Carrier Bearing causes the thud I hear and feel? My guess was maybe a support arm that holds the trans or something like that.

    Very possible CB

    pretty easy test

Go under your the non running taco
Grab drive shaft and give it a good shake/jolt
See if there is excessive play in the CB
Secondly, the CB has a flexible round rubber insulator……visually inspect and see if rubber cracked/perished as well

    remember….this is internet guess
Pix posted of said CB will definitely help/confirm issue!

Easy answer - 100% axle wrap from worn out leaf springs.

Axle wrap, axle wrap, axle wrap. Here is a visual of what is happening:

It is not what all Tacomas do. It is from worn out leaf springs. If your neighbors truck is doing it, his leaf springs are worn our too.

There are lots of threads on TW on this topic. Here is an example:

Around $26,000 worth of unleaded in the fuel tank.
In my experience, it happens when the slip yoke drys out. Grease it and see what happens. It is less costly than replacing leaf springs. Make sure to look up how many pumps of grease to put in.

Not say the slip yoke isn't a possibility, but I would use caution when pumping greasing into the slip yoke. It's well documented that you can hydro lock the slip yoke if you fill up that cavity too much, to the point where, it's a better practice to remove the slip yoke from the pinion (making nice match marks ahead of time) and grease just the splines.

I usually just add 2 pumps of grease, and all of mine have been ok.

I "fixed" mine by verifying that all U joints were free by taking the driveshaft out and atriculating them, overkill, maybe but I know for a fact that they are free. Checked the carrier bearing rubber support then I installed a $25 add a leaf on the rear springs. Problem solved for me.
