Changing the inner and outer tie rods on my '14 Tacoma (almost right at 100K miles, and decent off-road use) . They were floppy as a well cooked noddle (and giving me noises for a few months when turning at slow speeds like backing up).

Looking for opinions: any chance the grease/goo on my steering rack end is all from the inner ball joint and not a leaking seal on the rack itself???

Its hard to tell, but the grease on the inner joint was well broken down and loosing viscosity. The collecting grease under the steering rack end does look similar in color and consistency as the inner ball joints grease. I would assume the boot/bellow would catch the inner tie rod grease and then push it into this area when turning (when boot was collapsed). However, looking into where the rack end slides in and out, there is wet residue along this area. By hand, I didn't get any movement of the rack when I would pull on the disconnected outer tie rod. The pic is of my driver side.20250118_141012.jpg 20250118_141133.jpg 20250118_141235.jpg
