Looking to buy a 2009 Tacoma Access Cab TRD Sport 4x4 w/80,000 miles, VIN 5TEUU42N59Z630504 . Talking to the used car, dealer he quickly offered that the frame replacement had been done.
I can't find any acknowledgement anywhere if it had been done.
I've check Toyota.com, no open recalls, no indication if it had been done.
    NTSA web site, same thing.
I have gotten a Monroney window and it also provided recall info on 14
Recalls the had been done, no frame replacement mentioned.
    CarFax shows no open recalls.
How can I check that Frame had been done ?
    Thanks all your help. Bob

    1. Ask the dealer for the proof (sounds like he doesn't have any, or he would have shared it).

    2. Carfax should have a record of amy registered service, and I'm guessing the Toyota dealer would have reported it (and it had to be a dealer for it to be the official replacement).

    3. Does it look like a new frame? It'll either be clean, or rusty. Where are you located? Even down south, my 2012 had surface rust after 9 years, so you should be able to tell if it's new.

Download the Toyota owners app. Add vin & then add to your garage. Look up maintenance history. FYI Frame replacement is only valid for 12 years.

    Also welcome to TW!

Even if it was replaced, many didn’t maintain the second frame, so it doesn’t really matter, condition matters

Went to Toyota.com and joined the Tacoma Owners group. Entered VIN and they show No maintenance history or open recalls . I just got back from looking at the Tacoma (in the snow yet) . The frame has a sticker on it, just behind the left rear tire . The sticker shows the frame came from Mexico ?
I have doubts after looking under the Taco. You know how the trailer receiver is painted black, it's no longer, it's totally heavy rust everywhere. Under the vehicle, the frame shows moderate, but everything else under the body is heavy rust. The front CV boots are also torn . I think I'll pass on this one. Thanks all.

Looks like it was done in 2018 but I'm not willing to dig any deeper than that due to privacy reasons.

As mentioned, new frame means it wasnt really well taken care of most of the time and they'll cover up all the other stuff.

    Move on. Agree with you.

Never buy any vehicle unless you can personally inspect it or have someone that can.

I’ve seen a lot of replaced frames go to shit too because people are lazy and or ignorant thinking their new frame won’t rust and they don’t have to do any preventative maintenance or maybe they think they’ll get another replacement from Toyota down the road

And just to clear it up, the frame replacements wasn't a "Safety Recall or a Tech Service Bulletin TSB" It was a "Limited Special Service Campaign".

A Safety Recall is forever and free, a TSB is free only during the warranty period. A Limited Special Service Campaign is not safety related and has a limited time frame and other possible stipulations.
