    I'd be super appreciative of anyone help or ideas to make my dream truck come true!!

    This could be a pretty lengthy post and I'm not too sure if anyone will see it, I might post it around a few places and see what happens but I would really appreciate anyone who reads and has any ideas.

    Feel free to skip over this next paragraph if you don't want the whole backstory haha,

    I'm a past third gen 4runner owner who recently got in a pretty gnarly accident and my poor truck got completely totaled, its a miracle I even survived based on how extreme the front damage is. The truck has been in my family since about 2010 when I was around four years old. It's been there through all the hard points of my life and has taken me from all over the country, California to Maine, I learned to drive stick in it and it became my daily driver to school, and for my 18th birthday I inherited the title. So of course I have been distraught lately that it's no longer going to be part of my life and continued story. I started shopping around for another 95-04 Toyota 4runner/Tacoma but of course being college age I don't exactly have a ton of money. I recently got hired for a really well paying job that I've unfortunately not been able to start yet due to my injuries from the crash, so eventually I would have the money to afford another older truck but I need the car to get to work so it's kinda a chicken/egg type of situation. My dad offered to buy me a new tuck because after the accident he wanted me to be driving something with new safety features, now it may make me sound entitled to turn down an offer like that but I was so distraught to not be sitting behind a wheel just like the one in my 4runner that I just couldn't bring myself to even picture myself in a new truck. Eventually after doing a lot of planning I came around to the idea of getting a newer truck and putting parts from my old 4runner into it and styling it around it. Of course it won't be the same as actually driving an old truck, but I'm grateful to have four wheels on the ground and some elements of my beloved 4runner in it.

    >> So here's the question,

    How do I go about making a 3rd gen Tacoma resemble a vintage Toyota truck as best possible. And I'm talking going to any extremes welding wise, pulling apart interior etc, as long as it doesn't effect performance or safety of the truck.

    I'll write some lists of the things I am going to do or would like to do below. A lot of the things I don't know how plausible they are so If you know or have any other ideas please let me know, I'd love to hear!!

    --Interior wise here are some things I want to do. If you have ideas of how to do these things or other ideas please let me know!

    Some of the easier things I'm sure I can do with my old 4runner parts in the interior are:

    * putting in my 4runners carpet

    * putting in the old mats

    * putting in 4runner horn

    * putting in the old gear shift knob

    * putting in the old rear view mirror

    Some things I would like to do with the old parts in the interior but am uncertain if its possible are:

    * putting in parts of the old dash

    * putting in the old center console

    * putting in the old wheel ( which is difficult because of the buttons on the new wheel)

    * possibly something with the old door handles?

    * using the old speedometer backgrounds or new ones made for the Tacoma that look older

    Some of the things I'm sure I can do to make the interior resemble the older one but using new parts and tools are

    * seat covers that are the light brown of the 4runner interior

    * brown steering wheel cover (if the old wheel cant go in)

    * change console led lights to the classic yellow/green

    * Learn how to paint the plastic of dash/inside doors or upholster over it to be brown

    * Wooden trim

    Exterior wise there are some things I'm sure I can do and some that are a little crazy and I'd really need help with knowing how its possible to achieve.

    The only 4runner part I can really use is the decals and possibly the mirrors, I'll be taking them off, but some of the things I'm sure I can do with other parts are:

    * different wheels (pricey though, but so is everything unfortunately)

    * paint color, I'm thinking a sand beige(later down the line as also expensive)

    * vinyl decals ( like the old stripes on the 80s early 90s trucks)

    * a chrome trim for the fenders above the wheels

    * filler on the back to make the tailgate smooth so I can put the old toyota lettering on the back

    Some easy (but expensive) things I could do to the front face:

    * different headlights, non bright white led bulbs

    * different grille

    * different bumper (I'm thinking chrome)

    This is where it gets a little crazy and I want you to hear me out haha,

    How plausible would be putting on the headlights grille and bumper from an older Toyota. It would require some angle grinding I'm sure and welding and before you think I'm crazy for wanting to butcher a new truck, I think If I planned it out well on a software where I can visualize what It could look like and how it could work it could come out good with the right patience and skill. I don't have a whole load of experience with 3d software and all that, so again if anyone could help it would mean the world to me. I've been thinking about what older face could work on the 3rd gen Tacoma, I love the land cruiser ones but I think there needs to be at least a little bit of a curve for it to sit right and look okay on the truck, so if anyone has ideas for what Toyota would look good on a Tacoma let me know!

    I get some people are going to think I'm crazy and messing up a good truck, but hey we all have different taste and I get it. I hope I can find at least a few other people who think that retro-izing a new Tacoma is a cool idea. I'd be doing all these modifications over time as I can afford them, and eventually I'm going to get a vintage slide in bed camper.

    Ive been looking around for inspo and haven't found a whole lot but I'll put some of the things that inspired me below. I'm still not sure exactly what year Tacoma I'm going to get but I'm looking for manual extended bed which so far has been fairly hard to find [IMG]
