I’m having the same issue and have been for quite some time. I drive a five speed ‘07 Tacoma access cab. The indication light does turn on but like you mentioned. No matter what I do, the speed will never catch its self and I just end up engine braking. What did the mechanic say was causing problems? Is this something that could just be done in a driveway?

The OP of this thread hasn't been online since April of 2023 so I doubt he will be back, in any case he had a 3rd gen. Yours is a 2nd gen, systems are different.

Have you checked you Cruise Clutch Switch at the top of the clutch pedal assembly? It will be the one that is depressed when the clutch pedal is released.

Yeah I’ve checked it and it’s entirely fine. Thing is I’ve ran into the same issue as the person who started this thread. I haven’t taken it to a mechanic to check it out. I’ve heard a number of different t things on how to fix it, that being replacing the stalk, check fuses, wiring, switches, fast enough speed, not to pull towards me when setting speed, etc. Do you have any information for the second gen?

There's not much to it, essentially you have a Clutch Switch input, 2 Brake Switch inputs, Cruise Switch input, and Vehicle Speed input.

I'm assuming your have the 2.7L engine and a manual transmission?

Do you have a check engine light on?

I do have the 4c 2.7 liter, no my check engine light is not on. It runs amazing. 230K miles and have never had any real issues. Here and there I’ve done a few things like replace the clutch, brakes, rotors, (I do have aftermarket headlights), interior work, and the light never comes on besides the required “after five thousand miles -maintenance req- light” comes on.
How do I check to see what could be causing issues or to fix whatever is going on?

Without a scan tool that can read data from the cruise system you can manually check the clutch and brake switch inputs but that's about it.

    Brake Switch:
STP (Normally Open (0v)) is on Connector E7 Pin 4 (Blue)
    ST1 (Normally Closed (12v)) is on Connector E8 Pin 16 (Violet/White)

    Clutch Switch:
    D (Normally Closed (12v)) is on Connector E7 Pin 21 (Blue/Black)
