Just trying to have a nice afternoon driving out to a local park for a walk w/ the wife and the dog and a 2015 Corolla ran a red light right across the intersection. The impact swung the Corolla around about 160°. All the airbags deployed; front, curtain, and seats. Totally the other person's fault, so the Corolla's insurance is paying for everything. The adjuster just came back saying this is $22K in damage and thus totaled. They said the seats alone are $4K and $3K (driver, passenger). I'm heartbroken. I quested for this truck for months and I've only had it 7 months. Can I or should I bother to ask for another opinion, or for details on the estimate, or just take the payout and start over?

I have to say, Yes. It's totaled.

They can pay you and sell the truck for "less" of a loss.
They'd loose more by fixing it.

    What's payout?

You don't want that truck back even if they fixed it. It will never be the same. It's just a truck, you will find another. Take the money and run.

Sorry this happened, but sounds like everyone involved walked away. Only thing that matters.

I would find another truck and be happy.

Thanks everyone -- I don't have any truck people in my real life, so really needed some input here.

Our trucks might be reliable but they don't take a hit very well. So many trucks posted here with so little damage get totaled.

Check out my thread on rebuilding my truck. It might give you some context on what has to be done to fix it.

Yeah sadly looks to be that way. You could do what some say and buy it back as salvaged but then gotta ask yourself how much you willing to put
back into it. Will that cost you more.

When this happened to me, same thing. At that time 6 years ago prices are not where they are now. They gave me 18k
so I went and got a 16 and started over. Still think about my 09 from time to time. But that is life right.

That’s why we have insurance. Take the payment, get yourself a new ride and move on. It’s unfortunate but that’s what life deals us sometimes.

By seats, do you mean airbags?

Yeah I'd move on. Hoping the red light runner (whom I bet was texting or something) is proud of themselves.

Sorry, no likes for that post.

Two things: 1) Thankfully, nobody was hurt. 2) Luckily they have insurance...all too often morons that run red lights don't.

I agree with everyone else...time to say good-bye and move on. It will never be the same again, and be grateful nobody got hurt. There's another one out there just for you, all you have to do is go find it.

It seems like not a whole lot invested in the truck. Sorry OP, much as you love it, I’d just take the pay out. If it was more built with a lot invested in it, then it would be worth it to avoid total loss.

Take what your learned from this one and improve on your next. I did when my previous one was totaled.

I leaned on their insurance pretty hard and, key point, did not release the car to them until they gave me an offer I was happy with. Ended up with $21.5K. Thinking I might just get another ‘15 4cyl MT AC.
How does the frame look on this one?
