What auto car made in the last 30 years allows you take the keys out without it being in park? In either situation, OPs or what you described, the steering column doesn't lock. You'd still have steering and brakes but no power assist. Well the brakes may have assist a few times depending on how they're boosted.

Every car allows you to turn the key to switch to accessory mode. My Push to start Chrysler works the same as Toyota. Push to stop the engine and turn to Accessory mode when AT is in Drive, bur car is not moving. Push and hold to turn the engine off when car is moving.

I read the post, although admittedly assumed op was talking about a vehicle in motion.
The comment you replied and told to read the manual correctly described how the truck functions in motion.
If the vehicle is moving and shuts off with a single press, there’s something wrong.
That’s why I asked what you are taking issue with. Were you talking about that comment saying it would cycle on/off without mentioning foot on the brake or what?

My experiences with vehicles goes back substantially more than thirty years when most cars were manual transmissions - all the ones in my family at least were.

The ignition switch use to be mechanical only, not monitored by all the electronics of today, this applied to both MT and AT. Once the keys were removed the steering wheel lock was indeed activated. Today, I’m not going to try it, but do believe the electronic monitoring would preclude the steering wheel lock from activating when operating properly.

My comment was historical as to how we get here, both in history and here in this thread.

If by chance the OP’s vehicle was indeed malfunctioning as was alluded to in the first post perhaps the steering wheel lock might be malfunctioning also.

I often stop my 23 SR5 truck and hit the start/stop button while still in drive and then put it into park so I can keep listening to a song, cause I don't want to have to wait for the infotainment center and Android Auto to reboot... I have never tried it while moving though... Everybody is built differently so I can not understand how you are accidently hitting the button, cause I have a to look for it or feel around for it when turning mine off...

Honestly the best thing you can do to understand your vehicle better would be to download the owners manuals and read them (yes them), lots of info inn their...

And remember, you came to a open forum with tons of testosterone, and there will always be jokers (I had to bite my own tongue lol), so you will need some thick skin... Heck even my wife was laughing at some of the sarcastic comments as I was reading them to her and making my own, yes I am an OCD anal sarcastic asshole... lol... But I do understand your concern... Welcome to TW...

And BTW: I have to open my door, with the vehicle completely off, before the steering wheel lock engages...

Thank you for that. I searched the manual but didn't see this.

This truck shuts down while in motion with one quick push of the start/stop button. I think I have a problem with my truck. Thanks.

So it should shutdown while in motion with one quick push of the start/stop button?

So truck is moving, your foot is on the gas pedal, transmission is in Drive and it shuts down with just one quick push?
If yes, then something is not right with your vehicle.

Why is anyone driving their self when there is an abundance of self driving vehicles out there?

    Edit

I guess it shouldn't shut off while moving if you don't want it to. No idea how to fix that, I still like keys.

Thank you. I am looking for good advice and most of the replies have been smart ass child replies. I have never been treated this way on the WERA forums. I guess motorcycle folk are more polite. Thanks again man for being normal.

OK, now that the BS might be taken care of… OP, I would like confirmation: This turning off of the engine with one simple push of the Start/Stop button is definitely while moving. Right? Have you tested this more than once moving?

Another question: Whom did you buy the vehicle from? Private seller - probably out of luck. A dealer of vehicles may be coerced to correct the problem as a safety issue.

Does this vehicle have the original radio? You might not be able to answer this as you may not have any familiarity with what was stock in 2017 - I know I don’t. I investigated removing the speed input to my radio so any programming could be done at anytime.

It is possible the “fact” that the vehicle is moving is not being delivered to the correct ECU module. Before I spend time thinking about this issue would you please affirm the pertinent questions.

I have only tested it moving one time, it was more of an accident than a test. Yes one quick push of the button and the truck shuts down with no warning lights. The truck also shuts down with no warning lights when in drive and sitting still if the button is pressed quickly. The radio looks like a factory radio. I have owned the truck for about 18 months. Thank you for the reply

Correct. I agree with you that it should not be this way. Thanks.

Thanks man. I'm still used to driving my manual transmission truck for the past thirty years. I'm was trying to test the four wheel drive and hit the start button, I wasn't wearing my glasses. I have no hard feelings towards anyone here and have found some good advice here, my wife and I also had some good laughs from the comments. Thanks.

I did the same thing...going in to turn the knob for 4H and accidentally hitting the Start/Stop Button.

It kinda freaked me out but it was just a warning noise and the engine stayed on.

I really liked that Start/Stop Button safety device someone posted before it went away. lol

I would also like to see the post you mentioned. Is that a Yamaha in your avatar? I've been on two wheels for over thirty five years.
