What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

It developed a misfire on my way to the hospital, so after swapping for my wife’s car, going to my appointment, and gathering the necessary supplies, I tackled the spark plugs.

Replaced the passenger side, which fixed the misfire. Then it got too dark and cold to mess with the drivers side so I put that off till the weekend.

And after doing some math, and talking to the previous owner (a good friend of mine), we came to the realization that the spark plugs had over 100k miles on them. The gap was pretty aggressive on ones that came out of it.

 

God those are nice, I'm saving up for them now (as of 5 minutes ago lol) Post pics when you get them mounted!

 

It's been to cold for me but I also have to do spark plugs. I'm a wee bit past due.

I got a thing for flat beds. Been wanting to do this for awhile. But I don't trust me welding skills

 

Programmed my ultragauge to monitor trans pan and torque converter temps. Noticed my ultragauge has options for both ECM voltage and Ultragauge voltage. Was only checking at idle but ECM seems to be around a quarter to half a volt less. Anyone have any insight to why or which one would be better to monitor battery voltage/alternator health?

 

Nice flat bed. I have thought about doing a flatbed. What are the details on yours?

 

PO broke the window on my topper and replaced it with translucent plastic. Finally replaced it today with clear plexiglass. Going to take me a while to get used to having a functional rear window.

 

Yep, very easy to put on. The RCI sliders use pre-existing holes in the frame for fastening locations.

I did it myself (no helper) with a floor jack holding up each slider to get it in position then its as simple as putting bolts through holes, with the applicable nuts and washers, then tightening them down. You do have to reach into a boxed portion of the frame near the rear axle to get two of the fasteners in place (per side), but it's not difficult, just a little tight (as long as your arms/hands fit). The only real thing you need to pay attention to is that the slider mounting faces are flush against the frame—which I ensured by tightening the fasteners down in an ordered manner and using the floor jack to push things into place (and then loosening and re-tightening some to ensure nothing was getting tweaked and it was truly flush).

RCI also included mounting instructions which were not great, but did help here and there with making sure the right parts are going into the right places.

The RCI kit also includes split ring lock-washers which I did not install as split ring lock washers generally have an adverse effect on fastener retainment, despite their widespread usage. I instead opted for Loctite on all the fasteners to secure them.

Gave it a semi annual pressure washing.

 

I tried to find a car wash yesterday to get rid of the sheet metal deleting salt/brine/magnesium phosphate pre-treatment shit that coated every road in the state for the past 2 weeks. No luck in finding a car wash, if it gets above 40° on Sunday I'll drag out the power washer and have all of the neighbors looking out of their windows at me.

 

A friend of mine is quite talented and has done a few over the last few years. He designed and fabricated it all.

 

Spent some time wrapping my head around the size of this thing. 2.5", 4" travel hydro bump with an OAL of 16" lol. Gonna chop off and fab up some stuff very soon to mount this chonk.

 

If it makes you feel any better, PA is just as bad with the pretreatment but then they don't plow worth a shit.

 

My 17x8 bronze version of the wheels will be up for sale once I get the new ones mounted.

 

You will likely find that you need to shorten the stroke on those, which is fortunately an easy process. General rule of thumb is that your bumpstop travel should be no more than 40% of your up travel, ideally less. So with a 4" bump, you'd want a minimum of 10 inches of up travel.
